(in asking the mother for food). ചുണ്ടത്തു പറക to lisp, mutter — snout V1. വഞ്ചിയുടെ ചു. the peak of a boat V1. the point of a sickle, etc. ചുണ്ടന്‍ 1. pointed; pickaxe. 2. blubber-lipped V1.; fem. ചുണ്ടത്തി. ചുണ്ടന്‍വിരല്‍, ചുണ്ടോന്നി (a med. ചുണ്ടൂന്നി) the forefinger (T. ചുട്ടുവിരല്‍), ചുണ്ടോന്‍റെ വിരല്‍ V1. ചുണ്ടി 1. a small bird. 2. = ശുണ്ഠി dry ginger, ചു. പറക to quarrel. So. ചുണ്ടുവില്ലു V1. (& ചൂ —) a crossbow. ചുണ്ടെലി a mouse (C. Te. ചുഞ്ചു); muskrat, D. ചത്തവനെ ജീവിപ്പിപ്പാന്‍ ചു. യിന്‍ മീതേ ഒര്‍ ഔഷധവും ഇല്ല Tantr.

čima aM. (Tu. സിമ) = ഇമ Eyelash. ചി മ മിഴിക്ക V1. to twinkle, to wink with the eyes; also ചിമിഴിക്ക V1. ചിമിട്ടുക (T. C. Te. aM. to wink) 1. to threaten V1. 2. So. to be expeditious. ചിമിട്ടു 1. So. frightening; dexterity. 2. No. young, little. — ചിമിട്ടന്‍ a child.

stands for ഛ (ചായം), ജ (ചലം), ഝ (ച ടിതി), ശ (ചാത്തം fr. ശ്രാ., ചാക്യാര്‍ fr. ശ്ലാ.), ഷ (ചടങ്ങു), സ (ചേകവന്‍), (നച്ചിയം); ക്ഷ (ചാരം,തച്ചന്‍), even for ദ്യ (ചൂതു) and യ (ചോ നകന്‍) & dialectically ര (രാ —in TP. ചാ —). Palatal vowels may change a dental into ച (തെള്ളു —, ചെള്ളു; പരിതു— പരിചു, as in grammar കടിച്ചു from കടിത്തു),, or lead to the dropping of an initial ച(ചിറകു— ഇറകു; ചേട്ട— ഏട്ട). Old ച is also found lapsing into ശ (അര ചു— അരശു, പുതുച്ചേരി— ശ്ശേരി and സ (ഉ രുസുക, തുറസ്സ്). For etymological researches this is perhaps the most difficult letter. (In C. & Tu. ക represents frequently initial ച,, as ചെവി—കിവി; ചേരം— കേരളം.
