čuruṭṭu T. M. (C. Te. H. ചുട്ടി, fr. ചു രുള്‍തു) 1. A roll; as of tobacco, 'cheroot.' 2. a sheaf എണ്ണച്ചു. sheaves given to temples in lieu of payment. — (1 ചുരുട്ടു = 3 കൈപ്പിടി). ചുരുട്ടത്തല So. curled hair. ചുരുട്ടപ്പാന്പു a small venomous snake coiled up in dry spray (= ചേരട്ട). ചുരുട്ടപ്പം biscuit. ചുരുട്ടുക v. a. to roll up; മുഷ്ടി ചു. Bhr. balled the fist; വെററില ചു'ട്ടി കൊടുത്തു TP. handed betel. ചുരുണ T. So. Palg. a roll of thread, coil of rope, bundle = കൈപ്പിടിച്ചൂടി —

čarayuγa So. v. n. 1. To slacken, relax, abate 2. V1. to twine, wriggle, to be wrinkled, to curl (better ചുറയുക)—VN. ചരവു slackness; relaxation; abatement.—v. a. ചരെക്ക V1.

stands for ഛ (ചായം), ജ (ചലം), ഝ (ച ടിതി), ശ (ചാത്തം fr. ശ്രാ., ചാക്യാര്‍ fr. ശ്ലാ.), ഷ (ചടങ്ങു), സ (ചേകവന്‍), (നച്ചിയം); ക്ഷ (ചാരം,തച്ചന്‍), even for ദ്യ (ചൂതു) and യ (ചോ നകന്‍) & dialectically ര (രാ —in TP. ചാ —). Palatal vowels may change a dental into ച (തെള്ളു —, ചെള്ളു; പരിതു— പരിചു, as in grammar കടിച്ചു from കടിത്തു),, or lead to the dropping of an initial ച(ചിറകു— ഇറകു; ചേട്ട— ഏട്ട). Old ച is also found lapsing into ശ (അര ചു— അരശു, പുതുച്ചേരി— ശ്ശേരി and സ (ഉ രുസുക, തുറസ്സ്). For etymological researches this is perhaps the most difficult letter. (In C. & Tu. ക represents frequently initial ച,, as ചെവി—കിവി; ചേരം— കേരളം.

čuna M. Tu. C. (സൊന, in Te. T. cascade, fr. ചുരക്ക) Juice, as of a mango stalk after the fruit is broken off. ചുന കണ്ണില്‍ തെ റിച്ചു vu.; നാരങ്ങച്ചുന a med. ചുനെക്ക to ooze out; to be acrid. ചുനെച്ചതു GP 68.; മാങ്ങചുനെച്ചു = മൂത്തുപോയി.

čhardī S. Vomiting. ഛര്‍ദ്ദിനിദാനം Nid. of cholera, generally ഛ ര്‍ദ്യതിസാരം.— ഛര്‍ദ്ദനം, ഛര്‍ദ്ദിക്ക to vomit. — part. ഛര്‍ദ്ദിതന്‍ ക്ഷീണനായ്വന്നാല്‍ Nid. the vomiting patient. CV. ഛര്‍ദ്ദിപ്പിക്ക to give emetics etc. Nid.

čēṇṇōl Palg. (ചെവ്കോല്‍) = കോ രപ്പുല്ലു. The grass from which Palghsut-mats are woven (വെള്ളപ്പായും മന്ത്രിപ്പായും).
