dāmam S. (ദാ. Gr. deō, bind) A rope. മുത്തു ദാമം KR. = മാല്യം. ദാമോദരന്‍ with a rope round the body, Višṇu CG.

dēvanam S. (radic;ദിവ്) Playing, esp. with dice രണ്ടുപേരും ദേ. ചെയ്തു Nal., (hence ദ്യൂതം). (ദേവ): ദേവനാഗരി the common Sanscrit character. ദേവനായകന്‍ PT. Indra. ദേവയോനി a demi-god.

drōham S. (ദ്രുഹ് to hurt) 1. Injuring, trespass; ദ്രോഹം ചെയ്ക, as കുടിയാന്മാരേ TR. to oppress; esp. treason, as സ്വാമിദ്രോ.; കുന്പ ഞ്ഞിക്കു ദ്രോ. കാണിച്ചവന്‍ TR. guilty of high-treason, a rebel. 2. diseases through supernatural agency യക്ഷിദ്രോ., പക്ഷിദ്രൊ., എല്ലാ ദ്രോഹത്തിന്നും നന്നു a. med. ദ്രോ. ശമിക്കും Anj. സ്ത്രീദ്രോഹലാഭം ഉണ്ടാം Mantr. ദ്രോഹക്കാരന്‍ (1) a criminal MR.; (2) a sickly person V1. ദ്രോഹി a traitor, മിത്രദ്രോഹി etc. denV. ദ്രോഹിക്ക 1. to injure. പ്രജകളെ ഏറേ ദ്രോഹിക്കാതേ, ദ്രോഹിച്ചു ഉറുപ്യ എടുത്തു TR. oppressively. പെണ്ണിനെ ദ്രോഹിച്ച വന്‍ PT. ill-treating his wife. അവനുടെ അര്‍ത്ഥത്തെ ദ്രോഹിച്ചു Bhg. 2. to betray ദ്രോഹിപ്പാനായ് വന്ന പ്രലംബന്‍ CG. CV. f. i. കുടികളെ ദ്രോഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നു TR. tyrannizes.

dēvar S. 1. (L. levir, G. daër) Husband's brother = ദേവരന്‍, whence ദേവരവിവാഹം the abolished custom of levirate. 2. (hon. pl. ദേവന്‍) see തേവര്‍. (ദേവ): ദേവര്‍ഷി a divine Ṛshi. ദേവലിംഗം any idol, ദേ'ങ്ങള്‍ ഇളകി വിയ ര്‍ത്തീടും Sah. ദേവലോകം the world of the Gods. ദേവലോ കപ്രാപ്തി (hon.) death. ദേവസ്ഥാനം a temple. മഞ്ചേശ്വരത്തു ദേ. dainyam S. (=ദീനത) 1. Low spirits, depression. ദൈ'മായി ചൊല്ലിനാള്‍ KR. imploringly. ദൈന്യനാദം AR. (=ആര്‍ത്തനാദം). ദൈന്യം പൂണ്ട ഭാവം Bhr. 2. misery, low condition.

dvaidham S. (ദ്വിധാ) Duality. ദ്വൈധീഭാവം 1. duplicity, ambiguity. 2. indifference, neutrality (vu. ദ്വൈതികഭാവം). ദ്വൈ'വും തിരയേണം Bhr. a king must learn to appear unconcerned, impartial.
