vaḷḷuvaǹ T. M. (വള്ളല്‍?). 1. A priest of the Par̀ayas; a low caste sageവള്ളു വച്ചാത്തന്‍, വള്ളോന്‍ who wrote the വള്ളുവ ച്ചിന്തു. 2. a caste of slaves, ranking above the വേട്ടുവര്‍, famous for the beauty of their women (വള്ളുവത്തി), never seized by alligators (prov.), occupied with കൂലിപ്പണി, മന്ത്രവാദം, fishing & ferrying. വള്ളുവനാടു N. pr. a district, originally ruled by വള്ളുവക്കോനാതിരി of the ആര്‍ങ്ങോട്ടൂര്‍ dynasty (വള്ളുവക്കോയില്പാടു), who had received Chēramān's shield, the charge of the Mahāmakham & 10000 Nāyars, but was dispossessed by Caliout.
