lauγiγam S. (ലോകം). 1. Worldly, secular, mundane. അവന്‍ ലൌന്‍ (opp. ജ്ഞാ നി). 2. popular, customary ലൌ. അല്ല നൂനം വൈദികം അതുമല്ല Bhr. neither usual nor scriptural. അവനു ലൌ. നന്നായറിഞ്]ു കൂടാ Arb. I grew impudent. ലൌകികാത്മനാ കനിഞ്ഞരുള്‍ ചെ യ്തു Bhr. condescendingly. 4. kind words, salutation ലൌ. കൂടാതുള്ള സല്‍ക്കാരങ്ങള്‍ PT. വ is next related to പ (വകു = പകു, വിഷഹാരി = പിടാരന്‍, തറവാടു fr. പാടു), ബ (വാലിയം = ബാല്യം, വതല്‍ = ബദല്‍), മ (മിന = വിന, മിഴുങ്ങുക & വി —, തിന്മാന്‍). Initial വ is sometimes the result of a lost ഉ (വാദ്ധ്യാന്‍, വാവു), sometimes it slides into ഒ (ഒല്ലാ = വല്ലാ, വണ്ണം, ശിവപുരം, ചോവരം); in composition it can be lost (വേണം, വരിക, വിടുക), or becomes യ (നെടുവിരിപ്പു, നെടിയിരിപ്പു). In several words it passes into ക (ചുവന്ന, ചുകന്ന; ചേ കം fr. സേവ) & vice versa (രാകുക, രാവുക). Of old it served to keep vowels asunder (അ വന്‍ = a + aǹ, അവിടേ, മിക്കവാറു).
