pēṇuγa T.aM. (Te. penčcu). To foster, take care of ഐയം ഇരപ്പോര്‍ പേണിയകൂത്തു Pay. undertaken. പേണം V1. caution, പേണമായി carefully. denV. പേണിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോയി perhaps over-cautiously. CV. പേണിപ്പിക്ക Palg. f. i. വരന്പു = വണ്ണം വരുത്തുക, ഉടെച്ചു പൊതിയുക Palg.

poḷukka 1. A slice (= പൊളി) as of mango, which has 4 പൊ.;.; the 2 larger വട്ടിപ്പൊ. 2. a piece of ചെകരി. 3. splinters as from stones cut, wood-shavings. പൊളുക്കപ്പായി No. = വലിയ കണ്ണിയുളള പായി. പൊളുക്കവില്‍ No. കട്ട കെട്ടിയ അവില്‍. പൊളോര്‍ന്തന്‍N. pr. m. (= പൊളള, കുരുന്തന്‍).

piraḷuγa (T. Tu. പു —, C. Te. പൊ —). 1. To wallow, welter, roll as തോണി, to turn ഉരുണ്ടു പി. Bhr. പീഠം പിരണ്ടു നിലത്തു വീ ണു CG. വണ്ടു മുരുണ്ടു പിരണ്ടു SiPu. വയറുപി to writhe. വാക്കു പി. to talk to no purpose V1. 2. to be smeared. മണ്‍പി. to dirty oneself. മ ലമൂത്രാദികളും പിരണ്ടു കിടന്നു VilvP. (an infant). തുണി etc. മണ്ണു പിരണ്ടുപോയി; ആ ക ണ്ടങ്ങള്‍ക്കു കൂട്ടു നല്ലവണ്ണം പിരണ്ടിരിക്കേണം No. = പിരക്കേണം. പിരളച്ചോര slighter wound of a tiger, etc. (see ചോര) huntg. അണ്ണാക്കി ലന്നം പിരളാതേ ആയി VilvP. (Nasr. adultery പിരട്ടടിയാതേ 6th command.) പി രട്ടുവാക്കു. 2. wresting, deceit കള്ളപ്പിരട്ടം ഉരുട്ടും ചതിയുമായി Sah. പിരട്ടന്‍ B. fraudulent, (in മത —, യമ—, ലോകപ്പിരട്ടന്‍). പിരട്ടുക v. a.(T. പു—) 1. to roll about; wrest, distort words; deceive. 2. to rub as ointment, തരിപ്പണം നൈപിരട്ടി തണ്ണീററില്‍ കലക്കി GP. മുറിക്കി മരുന്നു പി. 3. to soil, dirty പഴം കൊണ്ടു മുഖത്ത് ഒക്ക പി. II. പിരളി No. confusion, consternation കുടി യാന്മാര്‍ക്കു വളരേ പി. ആയിരിക്കുന്നു TR. (through a revolt). III. പിരള്‍്ച V1. turning about, wallowing.

paγa 5. (പകുക) 1. Separation, enmity. ഉള്‍പ്പക grudge, കുടിപ്പക; പക വെക്ക to bear hatred. പക വീളുക, പോക്കുക to revenge. ക ണ്ണിന്നു പക = കാണരായ്ക. 2. incompatibility, f. i. തണ്ണീര്‍പക med. Hence: പകപ്പിഴ V1. disagreeing element; a term of abuse for Nasrāṇis. പകയന്‍ an enemy പകയര്‍കുലം Bhr.; also

pottuγa T. M. Tu. (C. počču fr. പുത, പൊതി). 1. To cover രണ്ടു കൈകൊണ്ട് ൦രംച്ച പൊ V1. to catch. കര്‍ണ്ണങ്ങള്‍ നന്നാ യി കരംകൊണ്ടു പൊത്തി നിന്നു Mud. (a poor merchant before a minister). വായ്പൊ. to hold the hands before the mouth, reverentially = ഓച്ചാനിച്ചു നില്ക്ക (with Acc. അയ്യാളെ വായ്പൊ. MR.). കരംകൊണ്ടു കണ്‍ പൊത്തി നാര്‍ KR. പൊത്തി വെച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്ക, പൊ ത്തിപൊതിഞ്ഞു വെക്ക to conceal a matter, frame excuses. വെടി കൊണ്ടാല്‍ പൊ'ന്ന ഉ റുക്കും തണ്ടും TP. protecting. 2. to envelop, as തെങ്ങു with thorns; to embrace. 3. to strike gently so as merely to cover the surface ആ യിരം മുത്തിയാലും ഒന്നു പൊത്തിക്കൂടാ prov. പൊത്തനേ (3) gently, by itself = തനിയേ, without a hitch പൊ. ഒരുത്തയില്‍ താണു കപ്പല്‍, പൊ. അവിടേ ഇരുന്നു T. (or securely? fr. 1.). പൊ. പറഞ്ഞു, പൊ. കൊ ടുത്തുകളക No. = എല്ലാം. VN. പൊത്തല്‍ thorns & leaves tied on fruit-trees as defence (2) f. i. തെങ്ങു കെട്ടുക 479. പൊത്തിപ്പിടി (2) seizing round the shoulders and arms, as for wrestling V1., കുഞ്ഞനെ പൊ'ച്ചു TP.; രണ്ടു കൈകൊണ്ടും പൊ'ക്കും welcome most fondly. തങ്ങളില്‍ പൊ'ക്ക KR. paṇam 5. S. (√ പണ്‍ to exchange, buy, bet) 1. Coin, fanam; chiefly of silver വെള്ളിപ്പ. 1/5 Rup. since 1730, (100 Billy fanam = Rs. 18 pice 4½ correct mint value, see Malabar Gazette 15th June 1867); formerly gold f. പൊന്‍പ. of which (പഴയപ.) 4, 3¾, (പു തിയ പ.) 3½ = 1 Rup. The mark of the gold f. /?/, thus ൫ /?/ ത്തിന്നു = അഞ്ചുപണത്തിന്നു CS. Other coins: രാശിപ്പ. (= 10 ചക്രം or 1/3 Rup.), കലിയന്‍ പ. (5. = ൨ രാശി), പുത്തന്‍ പ. Cochin fanam = 1½ ചക്രം. പ. അടിക്ക to coin. കള്ള പ്പ. etc. 2. money in general പൊന്നും പ ണവും ചെലവിട്ടു, പ'വും താരവും മുന്പേ കാ ണേണം vu.; വരുവാനുള്ള പണത്തില്‍ ഒരു പ. പോലും പിരിയുന്നില്ല, നികിതിക്കു മുതല്‍ പോ രാതേ കണ്ടു നാട്ടില്‍ പ. നിന്നു പോയി TR. the circulation of money is stopped. പ. കുററിയില്‍ ആക money to stand out, — ആക്ക to put out money on interest; to sell so much on credit as to become insolvent at last. 3. different taxes പുരപ്പണം, കത്തിപ്പ. Tu. പന്തം, പന്ഥം), വില്‍മുറിക്കുന്ന പുമാന്‍ ഭര്‍ത്താവാകുന്ന തു മല്‍പുത്രിക്ക് എന്നൊരു പണം ചിത്തത്തില്‍ നിരൂപിച്ചു AR 1. പണക്കാരന്‍ 1. a wealthy man. 2. adj. പ. മുണ്ടു, രണ്ടു പ. തുണി TR. cloth sold for one, two fanam. പണത്തൂക്കം weight of a (gold) fanam (= 2 മ ഞ്ചാടി, 1/10 കഴഞ്ചി). പണപ്പലക a board to count fanams (Cochin). പണപ്രിയം = ദ്രവ്യാഗ്രഹം. പണമാത്രം = പണത്തോളം as much as 1 fanam. പണമാല a necklace of gold fanams. പണമിട CS. = പണത്തൂക്കം. പണം പിടിക്ക to be prized, ഏററം പ'ച്ച തു ണി TR. പണവക cash.

piṭṭa So. Bad, vile, torn (പീറു, പീ, as ചീത്ത fr. ചീ).

paṭṭaǹ Tdbh., ഭട്ടന്‍, A class of foreign Brahmans, often traders, of old used as inviolable messengers, spies, etc. with പശ്ചിമശിഖ, hence less respected & object of many proverbs, f.i. ഊട്ടു കേട്ട പട്ടര്‍, പട്ടര്‍ തൊട്ട പെണ്ണു etc.; ഒരു കള്ളപ്പട്ടരെ അയച്ചു TR. a spy of Brahman. ഒരു പട്ടരശ്ശന്‍ (hon.) jud.; pl. പട്ടന്മാര്‍. Kinds: കടുപ്പട്ടര്‍ (lowered for eating the fish കടു?) a Sūdra-like class, living by science, & as carriers, embalers, etc. — കുട്ടിപ്പട്ടര്‍ Brahmans attending on Rājas. — ചോഴിയപ്പ. or ആര്യപ്പ. (with forelock) ranking with Kšatriyas, also മുക്കാണിയര്‍. — നാട്ടു പ. children of a foreign Br. from a Nambūri wife. Anach. ദേശികര്‍, വടമര്‍. പട്ടച്ചോമാതിരി see under പട്ടം. പട്ടത്തിരി (& ഭ.) the highest class of Nambūis, very learned, അന്തര്‍ജ്ജനത്തെ വിധിച്ചു പുറ ത്താക്കിയപ.
