pāyal So. & പായില്‍, പായി (T. പാചി fr. പചു green; rather C. Te. pāču, pāṇču to spread [old: prāṇču] hence C. pāču, Tu. pāse, Te. pāṇči). Green stuff on stagnant pools; duck-weed (ചമ്മി), green mouldiness on walls. — Kinds: ഊര്‍പ്പായി on tanks, Pontederia vaginalis, (ഊര്‍പ്പശിക്കാവു near Tell.) എണ്ണപ്പാ. Rh. Rotala verticillaris, കല്പായില്‍ Lichen rotund, an alga, കടപ്പാ. Pistia stratiotas, കുററപ്പാ. (= അങ്ങില്ലാപ്പൊങ്ങു), മുളളന്‍ പാ. Pingaicola or Urtioularia; വഴുക്കുപാ. Vallisneria spiralis.

paṇḍam T. M. 1. (Tdbh.; പണ്യം) Valuables, jewels, that may serve as pawn (often = പണയം), as പൊന്‍പ. etc. 2. articles in general, ഉഴവുകൊണ്ടു പോയാക്കേണ്ടുന്ന പ. ഇവന്‍ PT. an ox; തിന്നുന്ന പ. & തീന്‍ പ. eatables. ദീവില്‍ ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നതില്‍ പ. കൊണ്ടു വന്നു, ഓടിയില്‍ ഉള്ള തീന്‍ പ. കിഴിപ്പാന്‍ TR. the produce of the Laccadives = ചരക്കു (in Te. is paṇṭa produce, crop fr. പണ്‍ = പഴുക്ക). 3. A name, as it were the duplicate of a person or thing. ഇല്ലപ്പേര്‍, വീട്ടുപേര്‍ the family name. പേര്‍ ഇടുക to name (= വിളിക്ക, കെട്ടുക). തക്ഷ കന്‍ എന്ന പേരിട്ടു കൊണ്ടു Bhr. പൈതങ്ങള്‍ രണ്ടിന്നും പേരിട്ടുകൊള്ളേണം CG. ഗോക്കളെ പേര്‍ ചൊല്ലി നീള വിളിക്കയും CG. കണിശന്‍ ഇനിക്കു മുന്പേ പേര്‍ വിളിച്ചു prov. (why call my name so often). പേരുമാത്രവും കിട്ടാ & പേര ്‍മാത്രം ശേഷിക്കും PT. will utterly perish. എന്നു പേര്‍ പൊങ്ങും Bhg. called. 2. a person, individual നാലു പേര്‍ = നാല്വര്‍; രണ്ടു പേര ്‍കളും ഉടുത്തു Nal. ഏഴു പേരുടെ നാമങ്ങള്‍ Bhr. വധിക്കേണ്ടും പേരില്‍ ആര്‍ KR. who belongs to the വദ്ധ്യന്മാര്‍? എയ്യുന്ന പേരുകള്‍ Bhr.; എ പ്പേരീം (often written എപ്പ്യേരും) all, any persons or things എപ്യേരുമേ Nal. 3. notoriety, fame പേരും പെരിപ്പവും Bhr. etc. പേര്‍ പെററ, കൊണ്ട, ഉള്ള famous. പേ. നടക്കേണം ലോകങ്ങളില്‍ Sk. പേ. കെട്ടു പോയി No. loss of credit. പെരാക 1. to be something, have a title ഒരു ഉദ്യോഗം ചേയ്തിട്ടു പേരാകേണം (or എടു ക്കേണം). 2. to be notorious എന്നു പേരും ആകും TP. it will be said. ഏലം നുറു തുലാം
