paǰụ 5. ( = പൈ) Tender, fresh, moist, green, whence പശ, പശിമ etc. പച്ച 1. greenness, freshness. തേക്കു പ. കെടു കയില്ല, തേക്കിന്‍റെ ഇളന്തല പ. വിടും prov. timber to be seasoned. പ. കാണേണം I like to see green. മത്സ്യം പിടിച്ചു പച്ചയായ്തിന്നു KR. raw, also പച്ചയോടേ തിന്നു. — fresh water പനിമാറിപച്ചയില്‍ മുങ്ങിക്കുളിച്ചു TR. 2. an emerald പ. രത്നം, also നാഗപ്പച്ച another gem. 3. cowdung അടിച്ചു പ. പാററി TP. cleansed a room; so പച്ചതളിക്ക (the courtyard) = ചാണകം. കിണററില്‍ പ. ക ലക്കി TP. 4. crudeness, candidness, ingenuousness. പ. ഭാഷ unartificial, simple language. പ. പറക V1. frankly. പ. പ്പൈതല്‍ an innocent fellow. പച്ചത്തീയന്‍ No. a know- nothing, blockhead. 4. thorough. പച്ചപ്പ കല്‍ വന്നു RS. quite in daytime. പച്ചനു ണ, കളവു a big lie. 5. different plants, greens. തമപ്പാല്‍ പ. pūčča M. Tu. (T. പൂഞ). 1. A cat, (a bad omen). പൂ. കരക to caterwaul. പൂച്ചക്കുട്ടി മൂളു ക to pur. പൂ വീണാല്‍ തഞ്ചത്തില്‍, ഇല്ലത്തേ പൂ. പോലേ prov. പൂ. പോലും തൊടാ RS. Kinds: കട (ല്‍) പ്പൂ a sea-snail, നീര്‍പ്പൂ an otter. 2. N. pr. fem. പൂച്ചക്കണ്‍ V2. a cat's eye, a jewel. പൂച്ചക്കണ്ണന്‍ with cat-like eyes, f. — ണ്ണി. പൂച്ചക്കരണം മറിക TP. a gymnastic exercise, catching one by the loins and throwing him over the head. പൂച്ചക്കുരു the fruit of a plant. പൂച്ചപ്പല്‍ a tooth growing after the 80th year ഞാന്‍ പൂ. വരുവോളം ഇരിക്ക ഇല്ല No. പൂച്ചമയക്കി a plant like Valerian.

punam (T. high ground). 1. A jungle, chiefly highland overrun with underwood & capable of irregular cultivation പു. കൊത്തുക, കരിപ്പിടുക TR. the process of cutting down & burning the underwood, say once in 12 years for sowing jungle-rice. പുനനെല്ലു, പുനകൃഷി, പുനം പൈമാശി TR. N. ദേവസ്വത്തിന്നു ൨ പൊതിപ്പാടു പുനം വാങ്ങി jud. 2. a cover, hole പാന്പു പുനത്തിന്നു പോന്നു TP. പുനക്കണ്ടം a hill-tract. പുനന്പു rattan (= പുരന്പു). പുനന്പന്‍ D. a head-man among Chègōns. പുനംവാരം rent of produce from jungle cultivation.

pu/?/a M. C. (aT. പുഴ = പുര tube, hollow, പുഴല്‍ hollow, watercourse. C. poḷe to shine = പൊഴുതു). 1. A river (in N. pr. of places ആ ലപ്പുഴ, വരാഹപ്പുഴ). നല്പുഴ വരുത്താതേ KR. Ganga. പെരിങ്ങളോനാണ്ടപുഴനീന്തേണം TP. an ordeal. പുഴക്കലോളം വന്നു vu. 2. So. a gap in a wall = കണ്ടി. പുഴക്കലേഗ്രാമം (ചിററൂര്‍അംശം, തെക്കേത്തറ) N. pr. of a Grāmam which was founded and given over by Tunǰatte/?/uttaččaǹ in the 17th century A.D. to a few Brahman families on condition that they preserve & reverence his writings copied by his daughter. The Bhāgavatam excepted all the originals were burned in a fire 30-40 years ago and have since been replaced.
