kāvụ (T. കാ. fr. കാക്കുക) 1. T. C. black spot on forehead ('what preserves') മൈകാവുംമിഴിയാള്‍ RC. 4. a Brahman girl of 8 years B. 5. split bamboo with ropes suspended from each end for carrying burthens. പത്തുക്കാവ് 10 burdens, as measure. Hence: കാവടി 5.(T. also കാവുത്തടി) = കാവു 5., esp. a more or less adorned pole of a peculiar description with offerings dedicated to Subrahmanya f. i. കോഴി—, പാല്‍—, മീന്‍കാവടി; also religious mendicant's pole taken from house to house. കാവടിക്കാരന്‍ Cowri cooly; men that bring contributions to temple feasts (So. കാവ ണ്ടം loc.) കാവുക, വി T. M. to carry on a pole, also കാ വിക്ക, കാവിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോക; hence കാ വുന്ന കൂട്ടര്‍ = കാവടിക്കാര്‍ കാവിതി (T. servant = വിധി കാക്കുന്നവന്‍) also കാവതി, കാവുതിയന്‍ barber, esp. of Tīyar. f. കാവതിച്ചി TR. — ശൂദ്രകാവ്യതി higher class (40 in Taḷiparambu), വളിഞ്ചിയന്‍ (275 in Taḷip.), തീയക്കാവതി (121 in Taḷip.), തച്ച ക്കാവുതി (13 in Taḷip.), നാവുതിയന്‍ (500 in Taḷip.). šani S. (ശനൈ fr. ശമ്). 1. Saturn, considered an unlucky planet (=തമസ്സു) & identified with അയ്യപ്പന്‍ or കരിയാത്തന്‍. 2. a month of Saturn equal to 30 months of the earth. ഏഴരശ്ശ. a dangerous time in astrol. കൊല്ലം ൧ഠഠ൬ ചിങ്ങശ്ശനി MR.
