A demonstrative √, correlative with അ & ഇ (1. the middle between two. 2. what is above. 3. that, yonder). Perhaps surviving in the adj. part. fut. തൊഴുവതു, ആ വൂതു, ചെയ്വൂതു & in the poet. forms of the finite Verb വന്നുതേ came, ചെയ്യിന്നുതാകില്‍ RC. Hence ഉം.

a. Found in Tdbh's before initial ര, ല, as അരക്കര്‍, അരങ്ങു; — passes easily into the sound of എ, as ചെടയന്‍ from ജട, തെ പമി = ദശമി. The final അ has often the character of a palatal vowel and corresponds with T. ഐ, C. എ. f. i. തല, തലയില്‍, തലെക്കു; പറ, പ റെഞ്ഞു. I.
