To grow cold, to be cool, ചാലത്തണുത്ത വൃക്ഷം CG.; ഹേ അഗ്നി ഹനു മാന്‍ ലാംഗുലത്തില്‍ നന്നായ്ത്തണുക്ക നീ (also ബാലധിക്ക) KR.; തണുത്തുപോയി too cool. ത ണുത്ത നീര്‍ Bhr. = കുളുര്‍ത്ത വെള്ളം. 2. to be refreshed, assuaged, softened കോപിച്ച കോ പം തണുത്തവന്‍ ചൊല്ലിനാന്‍ KR. അവനു മ നം തണുക്കും ഏററവും, സുഹൃത്തുകളെ തണുത്തു നോക്കി KR. (tenderly). VN. തണുപ്പു 1. coldness, ത. കൊടുക്ക cooling remedies for cattle. 2. moisture. 3 മന സ്സിന്‍ തണുപ്പു comfort, appeasing. CV. തണുപ്പിക്ക to cool, refresh, to set at ease, to comfort (സാന്ത്വനംകൊണ്ടു ത. KR.) VN. തണുവു cold, of medicines തണുവായുള്ളു GP62.; of places.

mānasam S. (മനസ്സ്). 1. Mental. 2. mind എല്ലാജനങ്ങള്‍ക്കും ഒന്നല്ല മാ. VCh. taste. വള്ളിയില്‍ മുളകു കാണാതേ മാ. കൊണ്ടു മുളകു മതിച്ചു TR. 3. = മാനുഷം 3. മാനസതാരിടം the heart. Bhg. മാനസനാഥ Bhr. = പ്രാണനാഥ the wife. മാനസന്‍ in Cpds., f. i. പരിതപ്തമാനസന്മാര്‍ AR. with a grieved mind. മാനസപൊയ്ക Arb. = മാനസസരോവരം N. pr. a lake in Tibet. മാനസാന്തരം repentance (Christ.).

māsam S. (മാ, L. mensis). 1. vēr 5. (വെരു C. Te. stretching out, √ വിര്‍). 1. A root വേ. കിഴിഞ്ഞു prov. (& ഇറങ്ങുക). താഴോട്ടു പോയ വേ. the tap-root. വടക്കോട്ടു പോയ വേ. (preferred for mod. use). വേര്‍ അറുത്താല്‍ കാതറുക്കും prov. a cocoa-nut tree well dug round will yield so much that the produce converted into ear-rings would tear the ear-lobe. പാപത്തെ വേരറപ്പോക്കു വാന്‍ CG. to eradicate. കശ്മലത്തെ വേരറുക്ക Anj. to root up. ദാരിദ്യ്രദോഷങ്ങളെ വേരറു ത്തു; മംഗലം വേരററ പാപി കംസന്‍ CG. unlucky. വേ. പായുക, ഓടുക to spread. വേ. പാകി നിന്നൊരു വേഴ്ച CG. well rooted. വേ. ഇടുക, പിടിക്ക, ഊണുക to take root. വേ. മിടുക്കാക well rooted. 2. origin, cause അ വന്‍ ഇതിന്നു വേ. vu. വംശം വേരോടേ നശി ക്കും AR. വേരോടു കൂടിപ്പറിഞ്ഞു സന്താനം Bhg. എങ്ങള്‍ മാനസം വേരോടേ മന്ദഹാസം പെ യ്തങ്ങുകൊണ്ടാന്‍ CG. gained our hearts entirely. പോന്ന സംഗതിയുടെ വേര്‍ സംക്ഷേപിച്ച റിയിക്കാം doc. the real ground of our coming. വേരന്‍പിലാവു (or പേ —) the tree under which Tāmūri reviewed his Nāyars വേ'ാ ക്കീഴ്, ഗണപതിയുടെ നിത്യസാന്നിദ്ധ്യമു ള്ള വേ'ാക്കല്‍ KU. sāntvam S. (better ശാ —). Soothing, conciliating. സാ'മത്രേ ഗുണം KR. try to conciliate. ഉത്തരം സാ'പൂ൪വ്വം ഉരത്താന്‍, സാ' വിശേഷം ലാഴിച്ചു പറവാന്‍ KR. to comfort. സാ'വചനങ്ങള്‍ Bhg. സാന്ത്വനം S. (id.) bland, kind, soothing words സാ. ചെയുണ൪ത്തിക്ക VetC. സാ. കൊണ്ടു തണുപ്പിക്ക KR. സാ. കൊണ്ടു കോ പം തീന്‍ത്തു CG. സാ. ചെയു മെല്ലേ ചൊല്ലി Nal. ദുഃഖം തീ൪പ്പന്‍ സാ'വചനം Bhr. സാ' പൂ൪വ്വം പറഞ്ഞു AR. sāndram S. (G. /?/ dros). Thick, thronged, close സാ'സ്മിതം, സാ'മാം പദവികള്‍ Nal. സാ'സരോരുഹം CG. സാ'നുരാഗം SiPu. Soft. സാ'സ്ഥലം Sk. pleasing. സാന്ധ്യം കഴിക്ക KR. = സന്ധ്യാക൪മ്മം.

sānnidhyam S. (സന്നിധി). Presence; exhibition of power ദേവസാ. place & power of a God's manifestation. തല്‍സാ. കൊ ണ്ട് അവസൃഷ്ടമാം AR. ചിത്തസാ. കൊണ്ടുത്ത മന്മാരായീടും (opp. ദേഹസാ.) SidD. influence. പള്ളിക്കു വളരേ സാ. ഉണ്ടു, സാ'മുള്ള പള്ളി (Rom. C. Mpl.), അന്പലം, ദേവന്‍ (cures are said to be effected etc.); opp. സാ. ക്കുറവു. — സാ'മുള്ള പേര്‍ famous, (prestige), സാ.ഇല്ലാ താക്ക to render of no repute. (mod.)

sāmbraδam S. = സന്പ്രതി Now; in this case VetC.

sāmbrāṇi T. M. C. (& താ —). Benzoin, esp. മലാക്ക സാ. Styrax b. പറങ്കിസാ. Olibanum, for തൈലം, ധൂപം etc. സാമ്മുഖ്യം S. = സമ്മുഖത, f. i. സാ. എത്തുക to meet V2.

sāmam S. (ശമ). 1. Conciliation, one of the 4 expedients (ഉപായം 136.). സാമങ്ങള്‍ കൊണ്ടു തെളിഞ്ഞു Sah. സാമപൂ൪വ്വം പറഞ്ഞു AR. = സാന്ത്വം. 2. the 3rd Vēda മാമുനിമാര്‍ എല്ലാം നാന്മുകനോടൊത്തു സാമത്തിന്‍ ഗാന ത്തെ ചെയ്താര്‍ CG. 3. (സ, ആമം) സാമമാ യിസരിക്ക Nid. undigested evacuation, opp. നിരാമം. സാമവേദി S. skilled in സാമവേദം. സാമശേഷം S. the 3 last expedients, സാ'ത്തി ന്നാളല്ല Sah.
