āyāsam S. (യസ) 1. Exertion. ആ യാസം ഒന്നും തുടങ്ങാതിരിപ്പിന്‍ CG. CC. overwork. 2. fatigue, trouble. ഗമനായാസശ മം വരുത്തി CC. refreshed themselves. ആ യാസം പോക്കി CG. (= ആലസൃം) — ആ. ആ യൊരു തീയിലേ പായിച്ചു പെയായി പോകുമാ റാക്കൊലാതേ CG. don't drive her into despair & madness. 3. (compare ആയം II, 2.) nimbleness, അഭ്യാസത്താല് ‍ആയാസം വരുത്തി by fencing obtained full power of limbs; — opportunity, പാങ്ങു.

āδaδāyi S. (ആതതം drawn bow) Threatening one's life, felon (= വധത്തിന്നടു ത്തവന്‍).

ālāttuγa To bawl, halloo Vl. (comp. ആലിക്ക).

ālavaṭṭam T. M. C. Te. (S. ആലാ വര്‍ത്തം from T. ആലുക to move = അല) 1. A fan in shape of umbrella, made of peacock's feathers വട്ടം ഒത്തീടുന്ന ആ'വും തഴയും KR. ചുററും ചുഴന്നീടും ആ'ങ്ങളും (Royal insignia & good omen). 2. a punkā.

ārtam (ആ + ഋ) part. Afflicted അ വള്‍ ആര്‍ത്തയായി CG. suffered (in childbirth). ആര്‍ത്തനായി Mud. despairing. ആര്‍ത്തനാദം shriek, groan, alarm, lament. ആര്‍ത്തപരായണനായ നാരായണന്‍ N. the help of the distressed. ആര്‍ത്തി S. 1. affliction വിയോഗാര്‍ത്തി Nal. ആ ര്‍ത്തികളയുന്ന തീര്‍ത്ഥം KR. a saving water. — vu. ആര്‍ത്തിയില്ല he is not poor. 2. chiefly thirst ആ. പിടിക്ക pant after water, etc. 3. (comp. ആര്‍ക്ക) crying out.

āraṇan (T. ആരണം Vēdam, prob. from S. അരണന്‍ stranger) Brahman, perhaps the name, by which they called themselves when entering the peninsula, ആരണര്‍ കുണ്ഡ ത്തില്‍ അഗ്നികള്‍ CG. ആരണര്‍ കോനായ നാ രദന്‍, ആരണാധീശനാം വാന്മീകി E.M. also hon. plur. ആരണാവര്‍ക്കും അനുഗ്രഹം നല്കി CC.
