taṇḍụ Tdbh., ദണ്ഡം (but also തടി, തട്ടു) 1. A stick, staff; pole for bearing a burden ത. കെട്ടി എടുക്ക, മുളത്തണ്ടു V1. — വെള്ളിത്ത. a linga-box. 2. an oar, തണ്ടുവലിക്ക to row. 3. a palankin hanging on silk cords, royal privilege പള്ളിത്തണ്ടു etc. വലം വെക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു തണ്ടില്‍ കയററുക as a newly chosen ruler. അവളെ തണ്ടില്‍ എടുപ്പിച്ചു AR.; ത. കൊടുക്ക elevation to a dignity higher than that conveyed by the gift of a കുട. 4. a stem, stalk — met. അകതണ്ടു, മനതണ്ടു RC. mind = കാണ്പു — വാഴത്തണ്ടു, കദളിത്തണ്ടു in po. compared with തുട. 5. a detachment, troop തണ്ടുനായ കന്‍ = തണ്ടാന്‍. 6. what is long & hollow; pride ത. കാട്ടി നടക്ക, ത. ഭാവിക്ക to strut. തണ്ടിടിയുക V1. the waves of the sea to sink. Hence: തണ്ടരഞാണം a gold or silver girdle. തണ്ടാടി (l) a large fishing net. തണ്ടാന്‍ & തണ്ടയാന്‍ (5) a headman of Tīyars or Chēgons, appointed by the Rāja to direct their marriages, funerals, feasts, f. ത ണ്ടാത്തി. Taṇḍansin Palg. & So. are the Tīyars of the coast (without inter-marriage). Also a mere title given to palm-cultivators by lower castesp. തണ്ടായ്മസ്ഥാനം the office of തണ്ടാന്‍ control over the ceremonies of Tīyars; a purchaseable title; also wood-cutter (Syr.) തണ്ടായം(1) 1. a long pole for carrying burdens. 2. a long pull in rowing ത'വുംന ല്ല പാട്ടും കഥകളും കൊണ്ടാടി ഓടി SiPu. തണ്ടായുധം a club, war-spear V1. തണ്ടാളര്‍ (2) boatmen, sailors. ത'രേ കൊള്‍ക to enlist them V1. തണ്ടാളക്കൊററന്‍ So. basilisk. തണ്ടി 1. So. equality of age or strength; ചെ റുതണ്ടി of a small sort B. 2. a musical instrument (T. തണ്ടു=വീണ) മധുരച്ചൊല്‍ ഇണങ്കും നല്ല തണ്ടി RC, തണ്ടിവെല്ലും മൊ ഴിയാള്‍ KR. തണ്ടിക (S. ദണ്ടിക)=തണ്ടു 3.; തണ്ടികക്കുല a present of plantains to a Rāja, So. തണ്ടുകുററി (2) an oar-pin, a thole-pin. തണ്ടുകോണി stairs. തണ്ടുതപ്പി (vu. തണ്ടുവെപ്പി) an impudent empty fellow (= ചണ്ടി). ത'ക്കു കടിവിട്ടു PT. the foot of a turtle. ത. എന്നുള്ള നാമം ലഭി ക്കും PT. — തണ്ടുതപ്പിത്വം abstrN. തണ്ടുവത്തി (2) the blade of an oar, പലനാക്കു. തണ്ടുപല്ലു (4) stubble. തണ്ടുവലി (2) rowing; hard work, taking pains. തണ്ടെടുക്ക (3) to carry the palankin, chiefly in marriage processions, etc. മാമുനിമാരെ കൊണ്ടു ത'പ്പിച്ചു Bhr. tyrannized over the Rishis. തണ്ടെല്ലു (1) the backbone, spine, പിന്‍പുറത്തു ത'ല്ലിന്‍റെ ചുവട്ടില്‍ MM. (=മുതുകെല്ലു). തണ്ടേററം (3) a ceremony, when a chieftain succeeds to the headship of the family. തണ്ടേല്‍ see തണ്ടല്‍.

tuniyuγa, (fr. തുണിയുക q. v.) To hazard, resolve, venture അടിപ്പാന്‍ തുനിയുമ ളവു Vil.; ചൂതിനു തു. Nal. — Also with Acc. ആ കാത കാര്യം തുനിയായ്കവേണം CC. to attempt. തുനിവു VN. തുനിപു 1. resolution, daring. 2. clue = തുന്‍പു.

tūṇ Tdbh., സ്ഥൂണം A post, pillar of a house. ഈററില്ലത്തിന്നു തൂണിട്ടു Pay. began to build. തൂണ്‍ എന്നപോലേ ചിലര്‍ കാണായി Ch Vr. stunned.

taviruγa T. aM. To be put aside V1. തവിര്‍ക്ക V1. to exclude, omit (= ഒക്കഴി). തവിഴുക V1. to creep along, as തവിഴാമ (vu. തമി —) the spreading hogweed.

teyyam Tdbh., ദൈവം, as interj. O God! തീയന്‍ മൂത്താല്‍ തെയ്യം prov. തെയ്യന്പാടി, (ദൈവന്പാടി) N. pr. a caste of temple-musicians, like മാരയാന്‍ (8 in Taḷiparambu). തെ. കളോടു പിടിച്ചു പറിച്ചു TR. in Tāmarachēri, (also called കളത്തൂകുറുപ്പു). തെയ്യാട്ടു & — ട്ടം, (ദൈവാട്ടം) an offering to Bhagavati, performed by തെയ്യാടി or തീ യാടി q. v., (തേവാടി DN.) തെയ്യാന്‍, better തേയ്യാന്‍ No. = തേവിയാന്‍. തെയ്യന്‍, തെയ്യേലന്‍ (വേലന്‍), തെയ്യോന്‍ N. pr. m. തെയ്യത്ര N. pr. fem.
