tṛδīyam S. (ത്രി ) Third. തൃതീയ (gramm.) The dative case; (astr.) the third day of the lunar fortnight. (തൃ): തൃത്താലിച്ചാര്‍ത്തു a Kshatriya marriage. തൃത്താവു (prob. താഴ്വു, the basin which holds the holy plant). Ocymum sanctum, തുളസി, also called നല്ല തൃ. (&തൃത്വാ അരി a. med.) Kinds: കരിന്തൃ. (=കൃഷ്ണതുളസി), കാട്ടു — GP. Ocymum gratissimum, തുളസി തൃ. Oo. basilicum. തൃത്താക്കുരുവപ്പന്‍ No. (ഗുരു) = മാദേവര്‍. A small obelisk (Phallos?) of ചേടിമണ്‍, placed on the ചൂത്തറ of each house (10 days for Ōṇam & 2 for Maγam) in commemoration, it is said, of the great prosperity under king Mahābali.

tūṇi T. M. S. 1. Quiver (Tu. aC. ദോ ണെ, in S. also തൂണം, √ തൂരുക). ശരം ഒടു ങ്ങാത തൂണി KR. ശരതൂണി, അന്പിടുതൂണി RC. 2. a measure of seed sufficient for 100 yards of rice-field, about 1½ Iḍangā/?/i (= 86,400 rice-grains W.). നെല്ല ൮ തൂണിക്ക് അരി ൫ പോരും നെല്ലു CS. paddy, which yields 5/8 rice. — തൂണിക്കൊട്ട a measuring basket.

tiγa/?/uγa T. aM. To shine (or = തിക ളു?). തികഴ്വീരന്‍ ഇരാവണി RC. splendid (or perfect?) hero, വരം തികഴും വടിവു, വരന്തി കഴ്പോര്‍ RC.

tandala (Tu. cudgel) in തന്തലക്കൊട്ടി Crotolaria retusa GP 62. see തെന്തല; തന്തല may be mere imitation of sound. തന്തിനാതി & തെ — (C. Tu. തന്തനതാന) humming a tune. ത'നാതിനാന്നു പാട്ടുമങ്ങു പാടി Kur̀awa song (തന്തിനാ എന്നു).

tuḍi T. M. C. (lip, Tu. ദുഡി extremity, fr. തു ടു). 1. A small drum (C. Te. തുടുമു). Kinds: കടു ന്തു., കുറുന്തു., നെടുന്തു.— It is shaped like an hourglass, hence തുടിയിടപോലോരരയില്‍ DN.; തുടിയിട പോലേ വടിവുടയൊരു പിടിനടു KR.; പൊററുടി (= പൊല്‍ തുടി) നടുവിനു നേ൪ RC. — ഉരലിനു മുറിച്ചാലേ തുടിക്കു കണക്കാവു prov. — തുടി മുട്ടിക്കൊണേടു നടക്കു to publish a secret. തുടിയടിക്ക, കൊട്ടുക to proclaim. 2. T. So. cardamoms. 3. a measure, (S. ത്രുടി = 30 അ ല്പം). മുപ്പതു തുടിക്കൊരു കല എന്നതും ചൊല്ലും Bhg. 3. = തുടിപ്പു. തുടിംപാളക്കിഴങ്ങു an Epidendron, esp. on Strychnos (= പറകെട്ടി).

tōyuγa T. M. (T. തുവ, whence തു വെക്ക; C. Tu. തൊയി & തോ moist) To dip, soak, unite. മഞ്ഞള്‍നിറം തോഞ്ഞ കൂറ, ശോ ണിതം തോഞ്ഞ ബാണങ്ങള്‍, ഗണ്ഡത്തില്‍ തോ യുന്ന വന്മദതോയം. met. ശീതം തോഞ്ഞീടുന്നാ തങ്കം CG. സമ്മതം തോയുന്ന നന്മൊഴി Anj. (= ഉള്ള). തോയ്ക്ക T. M. So. (T. തോയ്ക്ക to dip in, bring together, etc) 1. to temper iron = ഊട്ടുക. 2. No. oocoanut-trees sprung from nuts which have sprouted before planting, will grow in a stunted fashion, തോയ്ത്തു (= ചി ല്ലിച്ചു; മെലിഞ്ഞു) പോകും. Previous page Next page

toṇṇa (vu.) Mouth (see തുണ്ഡം, തൊ ള്ള) — തൊണ്ണന്‍ 1. toothless. 2. So. = തൊണ്ടു. തൊണ്ണു gums V2. ആരാന്‍റെ പല്ലിനേക്കാള്‍ തന്‍റെ തൊണ്ണു നല്ലു prov. (C. Te. To/?//?/a of a mouth without teeth = തൊള്‍ hollow).
