dāham S. 1. Burning കാനനദാഹം Bhr. = ദഹനം; also med. ദാഹം = ചൂടു Asht. 2. thirst, ardent desire = തൃഷ്ണ. With ഒഴിക്ക, തീര്‍ക്ക, കെടുക്ക to quench thirst; with 2 Dat. തണ്ണീര്‍ക്കു ദാ. പെരുതുഞാക്കു TP.; ദാഹം കെടാ ഞ്ഞൊരു കണ്ണിണ CG. eyes which could not be satisfied. ദാഹശാന്ത്യര്‍ത്ഥം VetC. denV. ദാഹിക്ക to thirst, തണ്ണീര്‍ക്കു ദാ. AR. — ദാ ഹിച്ചവെള്ളം തരുമോ TP. water for my thirst. ദാ. കൊടുക്കാത്തവന്‍ M. = ദുഷ്ടന്‍.

dviγam S. (ദ്വി, two). Two-fold = ദ്വയം. ദ്വിഗുണം double, ഒക്കയും ദ്വി'മായ് വന്നു KR. ദ്വിജന്‍ twice-born; an Arya and esp. Brahman. Bhr. ദ്വിജം oviparous, as birds etc.; a tooth. ദ്വിജന്മാവു, Bhg., ദ്വിജാതി VetC. a Brahman. ദ്വിതയം a pair, ബാഹുദ്വിത. KR. ദ്വിതീയ the second lunar day; the 2nd case, Accusative (gram.) ദ്വിത്വം doubling a letter (gram.). ദ്വിധാ in two ways. Bhg. ദ്വിപം (drinking twice), an elephant. ദ്വിപക്ഷം a dilemma, അന്നേരം കുഞ്ഞനെയും കുട്ടിയെയും രക്ഷിപ്പാനും ഢീപ്പുവിനോടു വെ ടിവെപ്പാനും നമുക്കു ദ്വിപക്ഷമായി വരും TR. (Rāja of Koḍagu). ദ്വിപല്‍, ദ്വിപദം, ദ്വിപാദം biped. ദ്വിഭാര്യന്‍ one who has two wives. ദ്വിഭാഷി an interpreter. ദ്വിരദന്‍ bident, an elephant ദ്വിരദവരന്‍ Mud.

dēvar S. 1. (L. levir, G. daër) Husband's brother = ദേവരന്‍, whence ദേവരവിവാഹം the abolished custom of levirate. 2. (hon. pl. ദേവന്‍) see തേവര്‍. (ദേവ): ദേവര്‍ഷി a divine Ṛshi. ദേവലിംഗം any idol, ദേ'ങ്ങള്‍ ഇളകി വിയ ര്‍ത്തീടും Sah. ദേവലോകം the world of the Gods. ദേവലോ കപ്രാപ്തി (hon.) death. ദേവസ്ഥാനം a temple. മഞ്ചേശ്വരത്തു ദേ. TR., (rarely of Mal. temples). ദേവസ്വം l. temple property, ഭഗവതി ദേ. etc. ആ ദേവസ്വം ഊരാളന്മാര്‍, ദേവസ്സക്കാര്‍ MR. its administrators. 2. a temple, തളി യില്‍ ദേ'ത്തില്‍ ശാന്തി (No.) ദേവാംശം emanation, ദേ. ആയതു പാണ്ഡവ ന്മാര്‍ എന്നു തേറുക Bhr.; ദേവാംശഭൂതര്‍ KR. ദേവാംഗം N. pr. an emanation from Siva's body; hence ദേവാങ്കു (see തേവാങ്കം), a sloth കുട്ടിസ്രാങ്കു, whose fat is med. & serves to discover hidden treasures. ദേവാതിദേവന്‍ Bhg. God over all Gods. ദേവാന്തരം, (അന്തരം intercession?) an oath or ordeal, ഉണ്ടെന്നു പറയാം ദേവാന്തരേ VyM. ദേവാരം (&തേ —) Tdbh., ദേവകാര്യം regular temple-worship, നിത്യമായുള്ള ദേവാര പൂജ SG.; നല്ല ജപങ്ങള്‍ ദേ. മുടങ്ങിയേ DN.; ഇതി നിമിഷം ദേവാരത്തേരില്‍ ഏ റി BR. divine chariot? ദേ'ത്തിന്നിരിക്ക V1. to worship. ജപഹോമദേവാരം. ദേവാലയം a temple; met. മന്‍ മനോദേ'യേ സ ന്തതം വാഴും ഗുരോ KeiN. ദേവാസുരം inveterate war, as between Gods & demons, ദെ. തമ്മില്‍ എന്നല്ല നല്ലു ChVr.; ആഹവം ദേ'ര തുല്യമായി Brhmd.

drašṭāvụ S. (ദര്‍ശ) One who sees or examines. Bhg.

dūr̀ụ T. M. C. Tu. (see തൂററുക 3. & ദുര്‍) 1. Blame. 2. slander അവന്‍റെ മേല്‍ ഏറിയ ദൂറു ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു Ti.; എന്നെക്കൊണ്ടു ദൂറുണ്ടാ ക്കി, എഴുതി, പല ദൂറുകള്‍ ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു, നമ്മെ ക്കൊണ്ടു ദൂറായിട്ടുള്ള എണ്ണം പറഞ്ഞുണ്ടാക്കി TR. calumniated, also അവദൂറു. ദൂറുകാരന്‍ a slanderer.

duḥkham S. (ദുഷ്, G. dys, opp. സുഖം) Pain, sorrow തന്നാല്‍ അനുഭൂതമായ ദു'ങ്ങള്‍ Brhmd.; പുത്രദുഃഖം നന്നെ ഉണ്ടു (of a bereaved mother). നാരികള്‍ ദു. പറഞ്ഞു പോക്കിച്ചെന്നു AR. sought comfort in lamentation. drōṇam S. (ദ്രു = ദ്രുമം). A trough; a measure of 16 Iḍangā/?/i CS. (Trav.) ദ്രോണി id. (Tdbh. തോണി), ശവം തൈലദ്രോ ണിയില്‍ ഇട്ടു UR.

dōssụ S. An arm, (prh. Tdbh. തോള്‍) ച തുരശ്രദോഃഖണ്ഡങ്ങള്‍ ചെറുതു Gan. (math. = ബാഹു). ദോരന്തരാളം the chest, തേജോനിവാസമാം ദോ. Nal.

dinam S. (part. = ദിതം, as പകല്‍ fr. പക divide, or √ ദിവ?) 1. Day = നാള്‍ and = പകല്‍. 2. daily (vu.). — പലദിനം repeatedly. — ദിനം ദിനം daily (ദി. പ്രതി, അനുദിനം). ദിനകരന്‍ the day-maker, ദിനമണി the jewel of the day, ദിനപതി, ദിനേഷന്‍ = the sun. ദിനചര്യ, (see ചര്യ), daily duty; also ദേശം തോറും ദിനചര്യമായി (sic); നടക്കുന്ന അംശം കോലക്കാര്‍ MR. 2. a diary in offices. ദിനദീപംപോലേ prov. as useless as a day- lamp. ദിനാന്തം evening, അന്നു ദിനാന്തേ SiPu. ദിനേ ദിനേ Loc. daily. ദിനിസ്സ് = ജിനിസ്സ്, f. i. ഈ ദിനിസ്സ് നായ ന്മാര്‍ ആണുങ്ങള്‍ ഉടുക്കുന്നു TR.
