nāyaγam S. (നീ). 1. Leading പട നാ. ചെയ്കിന്‍റ Jew. doc. the General, നാ. ആ യിനോര്‍ RC. chiefs. A land may be ബഹുനാ., ശിശുനാ., സ്ത്രീനാ. Mud. governed by many, by a child, etc. — ൦രംശനാ. V1. a monarchy — വേദനാ. a theocracy. ഭൂചക്രം നവനാ..ആക്കി വെച്ചു Mud. gave the land 9 kings. 2. (also നായക്കല്ലു KR., നായകക്കല്ലു AR.) the central gem in a necklace നാ. പറിച്ചപതക്കം പോലേ KR., also നടുനായകം; met. വീരന്മാര്‍ ചൂടും മകു ടത്തിന്‍ നായകക്കല്ലേ AR. the first of heroes. നായകന്‍ a chief (മൂലോകനാ. CG. God); husband. Kēraḷa is said to hold 1000 നായ കന്മാര്‍ & 1400 വീരന്മാര്‍ KU. high noblemen, generals, etc. നായകി a mistress, lady VetC., better നായിക, as നാരിമാര്‍ നായികേ, വിണ്ണവര്‍ നാ. CG. Durga; pl. hon. നായികിയാര്‍ a princess. നായക്കന്‍, (II. nāyak). 1. a corporal. ബോയി നാ. TR. the headman of hamāls. 2. നായക്ക ന്മാര്‍, — യിക്കന്മാര്‍ N. pr. a certain caste of Easterners (of Telugu origin?), chiefly tank-diggers; when they marry, the bridegroom is said to eat a cat with the bride. D. — നായിക്കന്മാര്‍ക്കു വാദ്യപ്രയോഗം KN. — Kinds: കൊങ്ങനായ്ക്കന്‍ (or ഒട്ടനായ്ക്കന്‍, f. ഒട്ടത്തി), നാട്ടുനായ്ക്കന്‍ (with മുങ്കടുമ), വടു കനായ്ക്കന്‍ (cultivators, etc.)

nayanam S. (leading). Eye അവന്‍ ന. എന്നും ഇളകാ RC. (of a corpse). നയന ജലം വാര്‍ത്തു Mud. wept. നയനത്തീ Bhr. of Siva. നയനഭാഷകൊണ്ടു പറഞ്ഞു (jud.) a dumb explains by gestures. നക്ഷത്രത്തിന്മേല്‍ ന' ങ്ങള്‍ ഉറപ്പിച്ചു നടക്ക. നയനഗോചരം apparent, clear (to the eye). നയനാമൃതം, നയനഹരം a delightful sight.

niγakka M. (Te. C. നെഗ, നിഗ, Tu. നുഗി, T. നിവ) 1.To rise as in water ചെന്ന തില്‍ മുങ്ങി നികന്നു, a water-snake വാരിതന്മീ തേ നികന്നു നോക്കി, bathers വെള്ളത്തിങ്കീ ഴേ പോയി ദൂരത്തു ചെന്നു നികന്നു CG.; ചന്ദ്ര നെപ്പോലേ ഭൂമി ആകാശത്തില്‍ നികന്നു നി ല്ക്കുന്നു to be aloft. 2. to fill up, as a hole; to heal up as a wound വ്രണം നികന്നീടും PT. (vu. നേണു വരിക). VN. നികപ്പു 1. rising out of water. 2. filling up, levelling; sustenance ദിവസം കഴിപ്പാന്‍ നി. ഇല്ല. vu. v. a. നികത്തുക 1. to fill up, കുഴി നി. V1. 2. to level, നി'ന്നു ഭൂമി ചിലര്‍ KR. making a road. 3. to mend, perfect ഭക്തിയുള്ള ഭൃത്യന്‍ സ്വാ മിയെ നികത്തീടും PT.; കുറവുകളെ നികത്തി ത്തരുന്നു makes up all wants. സത്തുക്കള്‍ക്ക് ആപത്തു വന്നാല്‍ നി. narambụ T. Tu. M. & ഞ — q. v. (C. നര, Te. നരമു). A sinew, nerve, pulse പിടെ ച്ചു നെററിമേല്‍ ന. കള്‍ എല്ലാം KR., അവിടേ മുറിഞ്ഞാല്‍ ന. വലിക്കില്‍ അപ്പോഴേ മരിക്കും MM., കണ്ണില്‍ പൂവും നരന്പും ഇളെക്കും a. med. spasm in the eye? ന. എടുക്കയും ഉഷ്ണം പെരു താകയും MM.; കൈ ന. എടുത്തില്ല (in drawing the bow).

nirubam S. (നിരൂപം) An order, letter സര്‍ക്കാര്‍നിരുപം TR. (നിര്‍): നിരുപമം S. incomparable നി'മശരീരം AR. — നിരുപമന്‍ God. Bhr. നിരുപാധികന്‍ S. attributeless, God CC. നിരുപായം S. impracticable. നിരുഭ്യം see ഞെരിഭ്യം.

naittiyār, നൈത്യാര്‍, (നാ യത്തി or = നേശ്യാര്‍) Mistress, Guru's wife; princess, (as. ചാലപ്പുറത്തമ്മ KU.) — നൈന്ത്രവാഴ = നേന്ത്ര —, prh. Tdbh. നൈ ന്ദ്രം S. Name of a മന്ത്രം or അസ്ത്രസംഹാരം KR.; (loc. നീന്തറ). നൈപുണ്യം S. = നിപുണത, Cleverness, സ കല കലകളില്‍ നൈപുണ്യവാന്‍ VetC. നൈമിത്തികം S. (നിമിത്തം). Accidental. നൈ'ത്തിന്നു കൌതുകം ഇല്ല VetC. nothing wonderful in that which has a cause. നൈമിഷം S. N. pr. of a forest നൈമിഷാ രണ്യം Bhr.

nārāǰam S. (prob. fr. നാര്‍, നാരാ യം). An arrow, vu. = കൊക്കന്പു; നാ'ങ്ങള്‍ എയ്തു Brhmd.; തീ എരിയും നാ. ചെവിയില്‍ കൊ ണ്ടന്നു തിരുകീയ പോലേ പറഞ്ഞു കേട്ടു KR.; അവനെ നാരാചബാണങ്ങള്‍ എയ്തു KR. നാരാ ചസമ്മുഖന്‍ VetC. who meets an arrow. നാരായം (Tdbh.? rather നാര്‍ + ആയം) 1. a hairlike pin; the sting of a bee. — V1. a heavy double pointed iron style (M. also called നാരാചം, for writing Granthams). ൧൦ വിരല്‍ നീളമുള്ള ഇരിന്പു നാരായം പഴുപ്പിച്ചു വായില്‍ ഇടേണം VyM. naya (T. aC. നചൈ desire = നച്ചു). A bait for alligators, നയവെക്ക, കാട്ടുക to allure So., (കാളം വെക്ക No.).

nār̀uγa T.M. C. 1. a T. To grow up, whence ഞാറു, നാര്‍. 2. (നറു) to yield a smell, stink. ചാണകം നാറുന്നൂതെന്തിതു CG. why does the bread smell after cowdung, (so മീന്നാറി). നാറിപ്പോക to putrify. — fig. നിന്‍റെ വാക്കു നാറുന്നു etc. നാറാവുള്ളി garlic. നാറുവായന്‍‍ V1. with offensive breath. നാററം (C. Tu. നാട്ട & നാത്ത) smell, bad smell, as മേല്‍ നാ. V2. (of armpits). നാ'വും മണ വും അറിയാത്തവന്‍ prov. a dunce. നാ. പിടിക്ക to begin to spoil. v. a. നാററുക to smell, തീക്ഷണദ്രവ്യത്തെ നാ. Nid.; നാററി നോക്കുക, നാററാന്‍ കൊടുത്താല്‍ ന ക്കരുതു prov. CV. നാററിക്ക to spread a smell. എന്നേ നാ' ച്ചു brought me into bad repute.
