piḷḷa T. C. Te. M. (Tu. puḷḷi, grandson, Te. pin young, T. പീള്‍ foetus). 1. A child, infant പിള്ളവരുത്തം prov. (= ൦രംററു നോവു). പി.എടുക്കുന്നവള്‍ V1. a midwife. പിള്ളപ്പണി തപ്പണി prov. പെണ്ണും പിള്ളയും ആനന്ദിപ്പി ക്ക KU. (coronation formula). — pl. പിള്ളര്‍ boys CG. പി'രേ കൂടേ കളി ച്ചാല്‍ prov. കളി —, ക ള്ളപ്പിള്ളര്‍. 2. honorary title, as of ഇടപ്രഭു, വെള്ളാളര്‍, കണക്കപ്പിള്ള etc In Trav. പിള്ള is the caste-name of Nāyars; പിള്ളമാര്‍ accountants; എട്ടു വീട്ടുപിള്ളമാര്‍ (once) rulers of Trav. തിരുമുഖം പിടിച്ച പിള്ള a title granted by the Trav. Rāja to Nāyars for 2500 new fanams (the family receiving then a Diploma of nobility on a copper plate in power of which the offspring of its females enjoy certain privileges f.i. at marriages & exemption from customary labour (socage-duty). 3. the young of animals, small fruit; B. the pestle; അമ്മി പ്പിള്ള etc. 4. the Becond term in the rule of three, being of the same kind as x. (see ത ള്ള) CS. പിള്ളക്കര B. (3) a smaller stripe in cloth. പിള്ളക്കിണറു (3) a smaller well sunk within a larger one. പിള്ളക്കോല്‍ (3) sticks hanging from the പാ ലം of weavers. പിള്ളതിന്നി (1) attribute of a f. poṭṭuγa (C. Te. peṭlu). 1. To burst, explode ഒരു വെടി പൊട്ടി TR. a gun fired off. പൊട്ടിനൊരൊച്ച CG. (of a tree breaking). പൊട്ടുമാറുളള നാദം (lion's roar). പളള വീര്‍ത്തു പൊട്ടി (of one drowned). പൊട്ടിപ്പൊട്ടിക്കര യുക, പൊട്ടിച്ചിരിക്ക; so of the heart മാനസം പൊട്ടിത്തുടങ്ങിക്കണ്ട നേരം KR. (fear). പൊ ട്ടിയ വാചാ തൊഴുതു Bhg. പൊട്ടുന്ന ഉളളം CG. (grief). ജനനിക്കു കണ്ണുനീര്‍ പൊട്ടി ഒഴുകി Nal. — fire crackling തീ പൊട്ടുന്നതു കേട്ടു, പാവ കന്‍ പൊട്ടി എരിഞ്ഞുപൊരിഞ്ഞു, തല പൊട്ടി ത്തെറിക്ക (of a burning corpse). ലോകം ചുട്ടു പൊട്ടും Bhr. 2. to burst, as a sore ശരീര ത്തില്‍ പൊട്ടി വീണു an eruption; to break, crack as eggs മുട്ട പൊട്ടിപ്പോകാതേ ഭരിക്ക Bhr. അടി കൊണ്ടു തല പൊട്ടി TR. പെണ്ണു കെട്ടി കണ്ണു പൊട്ടി prov. = നാശം വന്നു. 3. to put forth as buds മരം പൊട്ടി മുളെച്ചു, കൂന്പു പൊ. — പൊട്ടന്‍ bursting (see under പൊട്ടന്‍). പൊട്ടിത്തെറിച്ചവന്‍ one who has lost all self-command, a reprobate. — അഞ്ചെട്ടു പൊ'ച്ച മാപ്പിളളമാര്‍ TR. mad chaps of rebels. VN. പൊട്ടല്‍ 1. bursting മുളയുടെ പൊ. കേട്ടു (burning bamboos). 2. = പുട്ടില്‍. പൊട്ടിക്ക 1. v. a. to burst, crack, break off കുരു പൊ. a boil. മദകരി ചങ്ങല പൊ. KR. വില്ലു പൊട്ടിച്ചാന്‍ CG. മാങ്ങ പൊ. pūṭṭụ T. M. (പൂണ്‍). 1. Closure, lock പൂട്ട റതുറപ്പതിന്നു RS. കളത്തിന്ന് ആമപ്പൂട്ടു പൂട്ടിച്ചു MR. a padlock. Other kinds: പൂട്ടും താഴും = കോല്പൂട്ടു (of Pattāya houses), തണ്ടും താഴും (for native houses), പറങ്കിപ്പൂട്ടു or ബൊന്പായ്പൂട്ടു (a padlock), പററുപൂട്ടു, താവുപൂട്ടു. 2. a clasp നടുവിന്നു കെട്ടുന്ന കൊട്ടപ്പൂട്ടു TR. a Portuguese girdle. 3. yoking കിളയും പൂട്ടും കഴിച്ച് ഉഴ വാക്കി MR. ploughing; also bending the bow ഞാണ്‍ പൂ'ട്ടേററി. കാല്‍പൂട്ടു = പിണെച്ചുവെക്ക a school-punishment. 4. a rice-cake. 5.
