paṭṭaǹ Tdbh., ഭട്ടന്‍, A class of foreign Brahmans, often traders, of old used as inviolable messengers, spies, etc. with പശ്ചിമശിഖ, hence less respected & object of many proverbs, f.i. ഊട്ടു കേട്ട പട്ടര്‍, പട്ടര്‍ തൊട്ട പെണ്ണു etc.; ഒരു കള്ളപ്പട്ടരെ അയച്ചു TR. a spy of Brahman. ഒരു പട്ടരശ്ശന്‍ (hon.) jud.; pl. പട്ടന്മാര്‍.
