paḍaδa C. & പടതി No. A curtain, screen; (P. parda).

pīr̀u So. = പീത്ത (T. to tear). പീററ an old, sickly cocoanut tree, yielding little fruit, So. പാററ. q. v.

paḍiγam Tdbh.; സ്ഫടികം. Crystal. പ. പോലേ ഉള്ള മുഖം a serene face. പടികക്കാരം, പടിക്കാരം 5 Alum, (II. കാരം 239).

parambụ (T. extension, bed. പിരന്പു rattan). A bamboo mat V1., also പനന്പു loc. പരന്പില്‍ ചുരുട്ടിത്തിരച്ചു കെട്ടുക a torture. നെല്ലിടുന്ന പ. something like a large gabion to hold rice, mats made by Vēlan, പെരിന്പ. etc. [Palg. of പന — & തെങ്ങോല]. (പരം): പരന്പുരുഷന്‍ AR. = പരന്പു., പരന്‍പു മാന്‍. പരലോകം S. yonder world. പ. ചേരാം Anj. die (happily), പ'ലോകത്തു Mud. — പരലോ കഗമനം, — പ്രാപ്തി, — വാസം, — സുഖം.

parōkšam S. (പരഃ, അക്ഷ). Lying beyond our sight or perception, opp. പ്രത്യക്ഷം, as പരോക്ഷജ്ഞാനം Bhg.; പൂ൪വ്വകാണ്ഡങ്ങള്‍ ഭിന്നമായി പ'മായി ദു൪ബ്ബലമായി Bhg. are abrogated as torn & thrown aside, (because അപ രോക്ഷജ്ഞാനം (36) വന്നു). പരോപകാരം S. (പര). Benefitting others, Nal. പരോപകാരവ്രതം a vow; പ'രൈകനിരതന്‍ Brhmd. പരോപകാരി benevolent, hospitable. പരോല്പത്തി S. another man's property V1. പരോ & പരവു Tdbh.; പ്രഭു, as N. pr. of caste & otherwise പരോസ്ഥാനം നടത്തുക KU.

poḷi T. M. l. (=പെളി). A streak, split, chip. ഓടു പൊളി തീര്‍ക്ക to repair a roof; what is torn, as a palm-leaf, umbrella. കെട്ടും പൊളിമുറി cancelment of a deed which is not forthcoming. So. 2. a layer, membrane of skin, rind ഒരു പൊളി തോല്‍ പിടിച്ചു കളയും to thrash well, so as to flay. പുറന്പൊളി q. v., അകന്പൊളി of bamboos for mats, മുറം, പരന്പു etc. 3. a cake. 4. a lie (=പൊയി, പൊളളു). നാരിമാരോടു പൊളി പറയും Bhr.; പൊളിയ ല്ല Bhg.; നേരോ പൊളിയോ TR.; പൊളി പറ വാന്‍ അവന്‍ (— നേ) കഴിച്ചേ വേറേ ആള്‍ ഉളളു prov. പുളിക്കു സത്യം ചെയ്ക V2. perjury; പൊളിവാക്കു excuse. പൊളിയാണ Cat R. perjury. പൊളിവെടി firing without shot.

palāliya No. = പല (ക) & അലുവ. A sweetmeat (വറുത്തരി spread on a board & liquid sugar poured over it, when it is levelled with a brass dish).

pustaγam S (പുസ്തം smeared, പൂചു = എഴുതുക). A manuscript, book, chiefly written on paper or printed; (ഗ്രന്ഥം on palm-leaves). നാലഞ്ചു പു. കൈക്കല്‍ ധരിച്ചു SiPu പു. എഴു തുക; ചേര്‍ക്ക, കെട്ടുക etc.

poδi T. M. C. (Tu. pude, see പുത). 1. A bundle, as of victuals; whatever envelopes കല ത്തിന്നു വായ്പൊതി കെട്ടുക a. med. 2. a full bag or bullock-load. പൊതി പിടിക്ക to be carried on beasts of burthen. ഇരുനൂറു പൊതി പുക യിലയും കച്ചയും TR. 3. a measure = 20 Iḍanga/?/i CS. ഒരു പൊതി അരി = മൂട (vu.). പൊതി നെല്ലു = 25 Iḍ. V1. (50 No.) ഒരു പൊതി ക്കു മുപ്പതു വിത്തു (Cavāi) others = 33½ Iḍang. അരിപ്പൊതി Arb.; also a number: 1 പൊതിച്ച ക്കര Cann. 100, Telly. 50, Cal. 10 pieces. പൊതിക്കാരന്‍ an owner of pack-bullocks. പൊതിക്കാള an ox of burthen. പൊതിക്കെട്ടു a bundle tied up ചോറു പൊ'ട്ടാ യി കെട്ടുന്നു TP. പൊതിച്ചോറു rice or victuals tied up for a journey ഒരു മുണ്ടില്‍ തൈര്‍ ഒഴിച്ചു പൊ. കെട്ടി Arb. പൊതിനാവു mint, Arb. Palg. (see പോതിക). പൊതിപ്പത്തു or പോററിപ്പത്തു a tenth of the seed-corn formerly paid to temples, but merged in the general assessment. W. പൊതിപ്പാടു a measure of rice-land requiring a Poδi of seed to sow it. എനിക്കു സ്വന്ത മായി ൬ പൊ. കണ്ടം ൧൨ പൊ. പണയം വക കണ്ടങ്ങള്‍ കൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നു (Becal). പൊതിമാടു Palg. = പൊതിക്കാള.
