paṇam 5. S. (√ പണ്‍ to exchange, buy, bet) 1. Coin, fanam; chiefly of silver വെള്ളിപ്പ. 1/5 Rup. since 1730, (100 Billy fanam = Rs. 18 pice 4½ correct mint value, see Malabar Gazette 15th June 1867); formerly gold f. പൊന്‍പ. of which (പഴയപ.) 4, 3¾, (പു തിയ പ.) 3½ = 1 Rup. The mark of the gold f. /?/, thus ൫ /?/ ത്തിന്നു = അഞ്ചുപണത്തിന്നു CS. Other coins: രാശിപ്പ. (= 10 ചക്രം or 1/3 Rup.), കലിയന്‍ പ. (5. = ൨ രാശി), പുത്തന്‍ പ. Cochin fanam = 1½ ചക്രം. പ. അടിക്ക to coin. കള്ള പ്പ. etc. 2. money in general പൊന്നും പ ണവും ചെലവിട്ടു, പ'വും താരവും മുന്പേ കാ ണേണം vu.; വരുവാനുള്ള പണത്തില്‍ ഒരു പ. പോലും പിരിയുന്നില്ല, നികിതിക്കു മുതല്‍ പോ രാതേ കണ്ടു നാട്ടില്‍ പ. നിന്നു പോയി TR. the circulation of money is stopped. പ. കുററിയില്‍ ആക money to stand out, — ആക്ക to put out money on interest; to sell so much on credit as to become insolvent at last. 3. different taxes പുരപ്പണം, കത്തിപ്പ. Tu. പന്തം, പന്ഥം), വില്‍മുറിക്കുന്ന പുമാന്‍ ഭര്‍ത്താവാകുന്ന തു മല്‍പുത്രിക്ക് എന്നൊരു പണം ചിത്തത്തില്‍ നിരൂപിച്ചു AR 1. പണക്കാരന്‍ 1. a wealthy man. 2. adj. പ. മുണ്ടു, രണ്ടു പ. തുണി TR. cloth sold for one, two fanam. പണത്തൂക്കം weight of a (gold) fanam (= 2 മ ഞ്ചാടി, 1/10 കഴഞ്ചി). പണപ്പലക a board to count fanams (Cochin). പണപ്രിയം = ദ്രവ്യാഗ്രഹം. പണമാത്രം = പണത്തോളം as much as 1 fanam. പണമാല a necklace of gold fanams. പണമിട CS. = പണത്തൂക്കം. പണം പിടിക്ക to be prized, ഏററം പ'ച്ച തു ണി TR. പണവക cash.

pilāvu (T. palā, Tu. pellā, C. halasu, Te. S. panasa). The jack-tree, Artocarpus integrifolia; പ്ലാങ്ങാ GP 69., പിലാന്പഴം V1., പി ലാവുഫലമരം ഒന്നിന്നു 4 3/20 ഉറുപ്പിക TR. the yearly produce in 1798. — Kinds: കടപ്പി. Morinda citrifolia (also = പുന്ന Calophyllum), കാ ട്ടു — (= ആയിനി, the bark yields a med. red dye), ദ്വീപു — (വിലാത്തിപ്പി. bread-fruit tree) Artoc. incisifolia. പിലാച്ചാണം a stinking tree. V2. പിലാവില the leaf used as spoon, a spoon made to its pattern എതിരവേ ഒരു പി' വില സേവിക്ക a. med. പച്ചപ്പിലാവില ചി രിക്കേണ്ടാ prov. പിലാപ്പൊത്തു: തുലാ പത്തു കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ പി' ത്തിലും പാര്‍ക്കാം prov. (a hollow jack-tree). പിലാവുള്ളി loc. No. = ബൊംബായുള്ളി a large white onion. പിലാശു, പിലാചു a. med, see പലാശം, പ്ലാശു.

pāǹa T.M. (Tdbh. of പാനം). 1. A waterpot ; a distill. 2. fig. a poem (ജ്ഞാനപ്പാന), പാ. ചൊല്വാന്‍ GnP. (തുണെക്ക 467.). പാ. പിടിക്ക to perform a play in honour of Bhagavati; to counteract certain charms by burying them. പാനക്കാരന്‍ B. a poet, dancer, distiller. പാനക്കൊന്പു a balance pole. പാനപ്പറ etc. as used by actors.

paraġaδi S. (പരം 3.). Bliss എല്ലാ ര്‍ക്കും ഗുരു തന്നേ പരയായുള്ള ഗതി KR. പരജന്മം another birth. പരജാതന്‍ a bastard, Bhr. പരജാതി a foreign tribe, other caste. പരണി Tdbh.; ഭരണി A vase, jar. പരണി ക്കിണ്ണം an earthen plate. പരണ്‍ T. So., also പരണ a loft under the roof, rude ceiling; a frame for drying something over the fire-place.

paraidhiδam S. = പരഭൃതം (ഏ ധ). — in V1. Falsely. പരൈധികന്‍ a young servant.

payi 1. = പൈ (T. C. pasi) Hunger, പയി പരന്തത് ഒഴിവാന്‍ ഒരൂണ്‍ RC. 2. = പൈ, പചു (Te. pasi, C. hasi) young, green. 3. = പശു cow. പയിപ്പോര്‍ rutting time; fight of bulls for cows. 4. = H. P. pai (foot, ¼) a pie, small copper coin, പതിനൊന്നു പയി MR. പയിക്ക (1) To hunger, പാകം പയിക്കുന്നെ നക്കു TP.; പയിച്ചു ചാക V1. to be starved. പായ്യായ്ക Nid. want of appetite. പയിക്കം B., പയിപ്പു hunger പ. തീര്‍ക്ക, (2 പശ) to conglomerate V1. പയിങ്ങ (2. T. പചുങ്കായി) Unripe fruit, young Arecanut (തണ്ണീര്‍പ്പ. & പ. 1st & 2nd stages of its growth; see പൈങ്ങ). പയിങ്ങാച്ചുള്ളി Acanthus ilicifolius. പയിന്‍ So. A tree = പയന്‍ 2, also പയിനി?

paḍaham S. (പടപട) Kettle-drum = പെരിന്പറ RC.; ഇടിയൊത്ത പ. കുമുറി RC.; പ. താഡിച്ചുChVr.; പടഹദ്ധ്വനി (auspicious). പടഹാദിവാദ്യം Mud. (also പടപടഹം).

parapūvar (പരക്ക, പരവ?) N. pr. A caste = പള്ളിച്ചാന്മാര്‍ KN., see പറപ്പു. (പരം): പരബോധംS. 1. conviction of others. 2. general consent, notoriety. പ'മാക്കുക, പ. വരുത്തുക to make public, divulge. എന്നു പ. വന്നുപോയി it's now notorious, VyM. പരബ്രഹ്മം the highest Brahma, AR. said to be worshipped by the Trimūrti, ജഗന്നാ ഥന്‍ രണ്ടില്ലാതൊന്നാം പ. Bhr. പരഭൃതം fostered by others. — കോകിലനാരി പോലെ നീ പരഭൃത Bhr 1. പരമണ്ഡലം a foreign, excellent country, heaven. പരമദഹരന്‍ KR. humbler of enemies.

poyγa T. M. (C hoyu to ford) A pond, water-pool; (loc.) flower-garden, see പൊ ഴില്‍. — താമരപ്പൊയ്ക, etc. പൊയ്യ = പൂഴി loc. കൈക്കു ചോര പററീട്ടുളളതു പൊയ്യകൊണ്ടു തോര്‍ക്കുന്നു (Mpl.).
