vīšγa T. M. വീചു, C. Tu. ബീസു, S. വീജ = വീയുക (വിശ). 1. To fan ചാമരം എടുത്തു പതുക്കേ വീശി KR. താലവൃന്തം ആദാ യ വീശി ശ്രമം തീര്‍ത്താള്‍ CC. 2. to blow കാ ററു തുറന്നു വീശുന്നു Palg. = ശക്തിയോടേ. മന്ദ വായുക്കളും വീശുന്നു ശീതളം SiPu. പവനന്‍ അ വന്‍ മെയ്യില്‍ പതുക്കേ വീശി KR. 3. = വീയു ക 4. to throw a net വീശിന വലെക്കു prov.; also മീന്‍ വീശി caught fish. തീക്കു വീശുക No. lighting a fire (നെരിപ്പോട്ടില്‍) in a boat to attract fish which is put out before the net is thrown. — met. f. i. പന്തല്‍ to spread, i. e. erect. ചുറെച്ചു വീ. 374. 4. to emit a scent or rays. CV. വീശിക്ക To get oneself fanned ചാ മരം ഇരുപാടും വീ'ച്ചു KR. ആലവട്ടവും വെണ ്‍ചാമരവും വീ'പ്പൂതും ചെയ്തു KU. ദുഷ്ടബ്രാഹ്മ ണനെ തടവില്‍ വെപ്പിച്ചു ശവത്തിന്‍റെ കേ ശംകൊണ്ടു വീ'ച്ചു രാജ്യത്തിന്നു വെളിയില്‍ ക ളയേണം VyM. വീശുകോല്‍ V1. a gimlet to bore eyes into needles; a fishing-hook. വീശുവല a casting net = വീച്ചു —. വീശേറി a fan = വിശരി (loc). വീളി B. Vile — വീളിത്വം villany (വീഴ്, വീണ്‍).

vāraṇam S. (വൃ). 1. Warding off. വാ. ചെയ്ക VCh. to obstruct. 2. an elephant വാര ണപന്തി Nal. a stable. വാ'ാദ്ധ്യക്ഷന്‍ 25. — വാ രണമുഖവന്‍ Bhg., വാ'ാനനന്‍ Bhr. Gaṇapati. വാരവാണം S. an armour, cuirass (= ബാണ വാരം).

vāriyaǹ (വാരുക? see അസ്ഥിവാ രി). N. pr. A class of Ambalavāsis who perform the lower temple-services & funeral ceremonies വാ'ന്‍റെ അത്താഴം prov. (see എന്പ്രാന്‍). hon. വാരിയാര്‍; f. വാ'ത്തി, hon. വാരിശ്ശിയാര്‍, വാരി യശ്യാര്‍ (വാരസ്യാര്‍ MR.); the house വാരിയം (വാ'ത്തു ചെന്നു MR.). I.

vaṇikkụ S. (vaniǰ fr. പണി Ved. merchant). A trader ഇത്തരം വര്‍ക്കിന്‍റെ വാ ക്കു Nal.; pl. വണിക്കുകള്‍ Nal.; & വണിജന്മാര്‍ KR. hence; വാണിജ്യം. വണ്ടര്‍, see ബ —. വണ്ടറ്, വണ്ട്ര Palg. vu. (T. വണ്ടല്‍ the mire in tanks). Dirt, filth വണ്ട്രായ്ക്കിടക്ക, വണ്ട്രപി ടിച്ചിരിക്ക to be soiled (comp. വണ്ടി 4 & പാ ന്തല്‍). വണ്ടവാഴി= രാസ്ന (see വണ്ടുവാഴ); N. pr. of a place. പണ്ടാരങ്കോഴി KR4 Indian crane (T. വണ്ടാ നം heron). višu S. (ദ്വിഷു? G. 'isos). 1. Equipoised 2. equinox, chiefly the feast of vernal equinox (see ഓണം). മേഷസങ്ക്രാന്തി വിഷുപുണ്യകാ ലം, തുലാസങ്ക്രാന്തിവിഷുവല്‍പുണ്യകാലം TrP. 1st of Mēḍam = 10th April. വിഷുവില്‍ പിന്നേ വേനല്‍ ഇല്ല prov. ഓണവും വിഷുവും വരാതേ പോകട്ടേ old prov. (Tīyars, on account of കു ടിയിരിപ്പു). വിഷുക്കണി the first thing seen on Višu, ominous for the whole year, hence വിഷു ക്കൈനീട്ടം, presents, annual fees (from കു ടുമനീര്‍ etc.) are given on that morning; even temporary houses are erected by the combined efforts of several families & filled with costly & auspicious objects (കണിപ്പു ര). വി. കാണ്ക. വിഷുഫലം result of comparing the nativity with the equinox, f. i. ൦രം കൊല്ലത്തേ വി. വേണ്ടില്ല, കാര്യമല്ല (നന്നല്ല) augurs bad harvest, sickness, etc. vu. വിഷുവല്‍ = വിഷു q. v., രാപ്പകല്‍ ഒത്തസമയം. വിഷൂചിക S. (f. of വിഷ്വക്ക്). Spasmodic cholera, = നീര്‍ക്കൊന്പന്‍ Nid. (വി): വിസ്തംഭം S. a bar, diameter; a യോഗം.

vaḷḷam T. M. (Tu. C. large corn-measure). 1. A canoe, boat of one trunk, in size between തോണി & മഞ്ചി; വള്ളക്കാരന്‍,— ത്തുടര്‍‍, — പ്പടി, — പ്പലക, — പ്പാട്ടു etc. — വ'ത്തടി B. timber roughly out in shape of a canoe. 2. = വല്ലം, a large bamboo basket holding 200 — 400 പറ of rice. 3. a small measure നരന്തച്ചാറു മൂവ., ഇരിവ. ഉപ്പു a. med. (S. weight of 2 or 3 കുന്നി).
