čuḍuγa T. M. Te. (C. Tu. സുഡു) 1. v. n. To burn, to be hot, to feel hot മിത്രാംശു തണു ക്കിലും ചന്ദ്രാംശു ചുടുകിലും KeiN. — With Dat. പവനജനു ദഹനന്‍ ചുട്ടുതില്ലേതുമേ AR. ചുട്ടു പു കയുന്നു to perspire. — Impers. തനിക്കു ചുടു ന്പോള്‍ കുട്ടി അടിയില്‍ prov. പെരുങ്കുരുന്പവേര്‍ അരെച്ചു പുണ്ണില്‍ ഇട്ടാല്‍ ചുടുകില്‍ വിഷമില്ല. a med. — met. ചുടുന്ന ചിത്തത്തോടെ നടന്നു Bhr. — VN. ചൂടു. 2. v. a. to burn തീയിട്ടും ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു, ഇല്ലങ്ങള്‍ അടെച്ചു കെട്ടി ചുട്ടു TR. burnt the houses with their inmates. പാളയം കടന്നു ചുട്ടു കൊള്ളയിട്ടു TR. ravaged. — ചുട്ടു പൊടിക്ക V1. to burn to ashes. — to make hot കൊല്ലന്‍ ചുട്ടു തല്ലുന്പോള്‍ prov. — to toast, roast, bake, boil, etc. ഫലമൂലം അശേഷം ചുട്ടു തിന്നു തടിയന്‍ ChVr. — met. കഷ്ടം നിരൂപണം കൂടാതേ ചുട്ടുതിന്നുന്നു ജന്മം പഴുതേ നാം GnP. consume without forethought. Hence: Inf. ചുടചുട hotly. ചു. ത്തിളച്ച രുധിരം Bhr.; ചു. കണ്ണീര്‍ ഒഴുക്കി KR.; ബോധം ലഭി ച്ചുടന്‍ ചു.നോക്കി KR.; ചു. കുടിക്ക while hot; വെയില്‍ ചു. കൊണ്ടിട്ടു TP. ചുടുമണല്‍ hot sand ചു'ലില്‍ ഇട്ടിഴെക്ക VilvP. (in hell). ചുടുവാക്കു fiery language (So. also ചുടുകൊള്ളി). ചുടുവാതം sore foot from internal heat. CV. ചുടുവിക്ക to get one to burn ആളെ പറ ഞ്ഞയച്ചു കച്ചേരി ചുടീക്കേണം TR. ചന്ദനം കൊണ്ടു ചു'ക്കുന്നു TP. (a corpse).

H. čaṭṇ. Ground condiments, vu. സംബന്ധി, ചമ്മന്തി.

čuri T. M. 1. Round hole pierced through Olas to thread them V1., So. 2. = ചുരിനാരാ യം the instrument which makes the hole. ചുരിപണയം a pledge, the possession of which is not given to the creditor (see ചൂണ്ടി).

čaityam S. 1. (ചിത) Tombstone, monument (altar, തറ) ചൈത്യപാലര്‍ കൂടി; അവന്‍ ചൈത്യസ്തംഭം പറിച്ചു, ചൈത്യപ്രാസാ ദത്തെ തകര്‍ത്തു KR. (in Lanka ചൈത്യനികും ഭില etc.). 2. = ചിത്തം soul ചൈത്യമോക്ഷം Bhg10.

čaṇam 1. S. Famous; അക്ഷരചണന്‍ clever. 2. S. ചണക Indian flax, Crotolaria juncea. ചണനൂല്‍ (S. Linum), ചെറു ച. Linum usitatissimum. 3. S. ചണകം chickpea, Cicer arietinum ചാ ണാര്‍ പയറു& ചണപ്പയറു, hence ചണക നീററില്‍ പുഴുങ്ങി a med.; വട്ടച്ചണായി B. peas, വെണ്‍ചണായി = വെളുത്ത അമര.

čhaġam ഛഗലം S. Goat; also ഛാ ഗം.

or ചാക്കില Rh. Ficus infectoria.

H. čēlā (= S. ചേടന്‍) 1. One forced to become a Muhammedan. അവന്‍ ചേലാ he is of a family circumcised in Tippu's time. സു ല്ത്താന്‍ വന്നു ജനങ്ങളെ ഒക്കയും ചേലാവാക്കി കല്പിച്ചു TR. ചേലാവായിരിക്കുന്ന ആള്‍ (of a Brahman). 2. circumcision (ചേലാകര്‍മ്മം). ൬൪ ആമതില്‍ (A. D. 1788) ചേലാ വന്നു; ൬൪ആമ തില്‍ ചേലാവത്തില്‍ വേണാട്ടുകരെക്കു വാങ്ങി TR. ചേലാവില്‍ കൂടി he turned Muhammedan. ചേലാവുകാര്‍ Muhammedans.
