H čōḷi 1. (S. ചോളം = കുപ്പായം) Woman's habit(& ചോടി). 2. a privy മറപ്പുര.

stands for ഛ (ചായം), ജ (ചലം), ഝ (ച ടിതി), ശ (ചാത്തം fr. ശ്രാ., ചാക്യാര്‍ fr. ശ്ലാ.), ഷ (ചടങ്ങു), സ (ചേകവന്‍), (നച്ചിയം); ക്ഷ (ചാരം,തച്ചന്‍), even for ദ്യ (ചൂതു) and യ (ചോ നകന്‍) & dialectically ര (രാ —in TP. ചാ —). Palatal vowels may change a dental into ച (തെള്ളു —, ചെള്ളു; പരിതു— പരിചു, as in grammar കടിച്ചു from കടിത്തു),, or lead to the dropping of an initial ച(ചിറകു— ഇറകു; ചേട്ട— ഏട്ട). Old ച is also found lapsing into ശ (അര ചു— അരശു, പുതുച്ചേരി— ശ്ശേരി and സ (ഉ രുസുക, തുറസ്സ്). For etymological researches this is perhaps the most difficult letter. (In C. & Tu. ക represents frequently initial ച,, as ചെവി—കിവി; ചേരം— കേരളം.

No. boards joined to low-sided boats (ചേല കെട്ടുക). ചേലപ്പുടവ V1. a cloak, covering sheet. ചേലമരം Indian fig-tree, the bark of which serves as sackcloth (ചേല ചുററുക). ചേലാഞ്ചലംകൊണ്ടു മൂടി അണിമുഖം KR 3. veil, gaze.

čuriγa M. T. C. Te. സു — (= ഛൂരിക S., fr. preceding?) A dagger, small sword നേ രേ വന്നാല്‍ ചു. prov. (opp. കടുത്തില). തുള്ളും മുനയോടിളകും ചുരികകള്‍ Bhr. ചുരികക്കോല്‍ a fencing stick, used in വേലതുള്ളുക.

čuruḷ T. M. (C. Te. Tu. സു —) 1. Scroll, roll. 2. a rolled up Ola. 3. convoluted betel-leaves, ചുരുളും കിഴിയും presents to Brahmans. 4. a roll of cloth (കച്ച) etc. മൊത്തെങ്ങന്‍ ചുരുള്‍ക്കു രുന്നു MM. ചുരുള No. as above. ചുരുളുക n. v. 1. to be rolled up. പിടിച്ചുതുണ്ട കൈ V2. fist. 2. to be curled നീണ്ടുതണ്ട ഗ്രം ചുരുണ്ട തലമുടി SiPu. നീണ്ടിരുണ്ടഗ്രം ചുരുണ്ട കേശം VetC. — a. v. ചുരുട്ടുക q. v. ചുരെക്ക see ചിരെക്ക (S. ക്ഷുര്‍).
