čakkụ (Tdbh.; ചക്രം) 1. Oilpress, (ചക്കു കണ the roller of it, ചക്കുകൊക്കു a wood on the top of the pestle, ചക്കുരല്‍ the mortar); sugar-mill etc. ചക്കിന്‍റെ മുരട്ടു കുട്ടന്‍റെ ചേല്‍ prov. ചക്കിലിട്ടമര്‍ത്തീടും എള്ളുപോലെ Brhmd. ചക്കില കപ്പെട്ടൊരിക്ഷു പോലെ ഞെരിക്ക CG. Kinds: നാട്ടുചക്കു, കൊങ്ങന്‍ചക്കു MR. 2. measure of oil-fruits ഒരു ചക്ക് എള്ളു etc. Hence: ചക്കാട്ടുക to work an oilpress. VN. ചക്കാട്ടു — ട്ടം the pressing of oil, etc. ചക്കാന്‍ m.— ാത്തി f. oilpresser, So. ചക്കാല the shed of an oilpress. ചക്കാലവാണി യന്‍& ചക്കോന്‍ KN. the caste of oil-makers, also ചക്കുകാരന്‍ MR. ചക്കില്ലാത്ത വാണി യന്‍ KN. an oil-seller. ചക്കുതോക്കു a mortar TR.— ചക്കുണ്ട a bomb, hence: ചക്കുവെടി bombarding. ചക്കുപാര an instrument for taking oilcake out of the press. ചക്കുപുര = ചക്കാല, also ചക്കിനമൂടു.

čoṇṇi (സുവര്‍ണ്ണി?) 1. Vain of beauty, proud (f. — ച്ചി; അമ്മ കറുത്തും മോള്‍വെളുത്തും മോളെ മോള്‍ ചൊണ്ണിച്ചി No. a riddle = വെള്ളി ലച്ചെടി). 2. N. pr. fem.

čeriyuγa = ചരിയുക 2. To turn, bow എടത്തെനക്കൊള്ളേ ചെരിഞ്ഞും കോളേ TP.; to be bent താടി കോടി ചെരിഞ്ഞു പോം Nid. distorted jaw; to recline. ചെരിക്ക = ചരിക്ക II. to bend. അടക്ക ചെരിച്ചു chewing Arecanut has intoxicated him (see also ചൊരുക്ക). ചെരിച്ചു കെട്ടുക to build a veranda, to add a thatch to the house. čhāya 1. Shade ഛത്രഛായ Bhr. ഛാ കള്‍ എല്ലാററിന്നും ഛിദ്രം ഉണ്ടെന്നു തോന്നി Bhg. bad omen. ഛായാ ശൂഷ്കം ചെയ്തു Tantr. dry in the shade. 2. sun's wife, hence ഛായാ പതി sun. — ഛായഗ്രഹണി AR. taking the shadow (Rāks/?/zhl/?/asi). 3. image likeness ശബ്ദ ഛായ MC. a kind of sound. സ്വര്‍ണ്ണഛ്ശായ ര മ്യമാം കായം Nal. colour (hence ചായം).

čeṇḍụ C. Te. T. M. (Beng. ഗെണ്ഡു) A cotton-ball, tassel; the tassel of a woman's marriage-string (താലി) dangling down her back (So. പൊടിപ്പൂ); വാളിനു ഉമ്മവും ചെ. TP. fringe; esp. പൂച്ചെണ്ടു nosegay V1.; നീളച്ചെ ണ്ടെഴും മന്നര്‍കോന്‍, ചെണ്ടാര്‍വണ്ടിനം RC. ചെണ്ടുമല്ലിക a Sonchus or Hieracium. denV. ചെണ്ടിച്ചവാല്‍ the bushy tail of cattle, etc.

čāttiram Tdbh., ശാസ്ത്രം f.i. ചാത്ര നീതിയുടെ വഴിപോകും Pay. — a peculiar performance of Brahmans (Shāstra reading?) čukkụ T. M. C. Te. (shrivel = ചുരുക്കു, or Tdbh. ശുഷ്കം) Dry, as ചുക്കടക്ക, ചുക്കങ്കായി of plantains. കുറുക്കുല നെയ്യില്‍ വറുത്ത ചുക്കാ ന്പോള്‍ വാങ്ങി MM. ചുക്കാക വെന്തു a med. 2.dried ginger. ചുക്കുവെള്ളം കുടിച്ചു med. prov. ഭാരം ചക്കെക്കു പലം ചുക്കു prov. (in praise of dry ginger). S. what is worthless. Hence: ചുക്കുക, ക്കി to grow dry, shrivel (also ചുങ്ങുക).

čulam S. (ചൂള = ചൂഡ). ചൌള കര്‍മ്മം the ceremony of tonsure, performed on Brahman children three years old.

čūḷal (aT. ചൂഴല്‍ = ചുളുങ്ങു) Shrinking; doubt. ചൂളുക, ളി to shrink, contract.
