dīkša S.(desid. of ദക്ഷ് to try & fit oneself) 1. Initiation, esp. for sacrifice; all the observances. 2. consecration. ശിവദീക്ഷ V1. devoting oneself to Siva = ശൈവം. — ഗര്‍ഭദീക്ഷ (Brahmans not shaving during each pregnancy of their wives; low castes seldom & then only during the first one). 3. mourning & ceremonies for the deceased, (in lower castes വാലാ യ്മ). Tdbh. തീക്ക തിരുനെല്ലിക്കൂട്ടി വെക്ക TP.; അവന്‍ നന്പൂതിരിക്കു ദീക്ഷയായി വെലി മുത ലായ്തു ചെയ്തു MR.; സംവത്സരം ദീക്ഷ എത്തി ക്കേണം Anach. mourning for a year, duty of the next heir. ദീക്ഷകന്‍ a leader in ceremonies V2. ദീക്ഷക്കാരന്‍ (1.3) one who practises abstemiousness for the above objects. ദീക്ഷപിരിക 1. to observe abstinence, as newly married Brahmans for three nights, വിവാഹം കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ ദീക്ഷ പിരിച്ചു നാലാം നാള്‍ KU. 2. to cease from mourning. ദീക്ഷാശാല = യാഗശാല, f. i. ദീ. യില്‍ വാണരു ളും മാധവന്‍ SG. denV. ദീക്ഷിക്ക 1. to consecrate oneself to an observance യാഗം ദീ'ച്ചാന്‍ AR.; ദീക്ഷിച്ചു മു നീ രാമന്‍ യുദ്ധയാഗത്തിന്നായി ൬ നാള്‍ അഹോരാത്രം വീതനിദ്രന്മാരായി KR.; അന ശനം ദീ. (= ദീക്ഷിപ്പിക്ക) to initiate, രാമന്‍ ദീക്ഷി ക്ക എന്നു മുനിയോടു ചൊല്ലിനാന്‍ KR. ദീക്ഷിതന്‍ 1. initiated; the Brahman presiding at the സോമയാഗം. 2. a mourner V2.
