pāδivratyam S. (പതിവ്രത). Faithfulness to the husband, chastity.

pōkku T. M. C. (പോക). 1. Going, passing off (as നേരന്പോ.). പോ. മുട്ടിക്ക to shut up in a fort etc. നാരിമാര്‍ പോക്കിനെ തടുത്തു CG. prevented their going. നമ്മുടെ ജീവനും പോക്കുണ്ടാമേ CG. shall die. പോക്കടു ത്തു death is at hand. പോക്കു വെച്ചു ruin has set in (= ക്ഷയം തുടങ്ങി). ഫലത്തിന്‍റെ മ ര്യാദപോലേ ഉളള പോക്കും കഴിച്ചു പാട്ടം കെ ട്ടി TR. the customary deduction from produce = കഴിപ്പു . 2. way വെളളത്തിന്നു പോക്കില്ല no outlet. പോക്കൊരു കാണിമാത്രം കോടീ ല്ല നരേന്ദ്രനു Brhmd. did not swerve. പോക്കൊ രുമിച്ചു തേരില്‍ ഏറി Brhmd. കാരണ ന്മാര്‍ പോയ പോ. old ways or customs.

poδu T. M. (aC. po/?/aku). Common, general. പൊതുമുതല്‍ common property. പൊ തുവായിട്ടു വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ധര്‍മ്മം VyM. a universal law. പൊതു പിരിക്ക V1. to be solitary. പൊതുവിലുളള B. catholic. പൊതുവന്‍ So. a barber; No. പൊതുവാന്‍ the barber of Paravaǹ & Kammāḷars; his wife പൊതുവാടിച്ചി. പൊതുവാള്‍ (ആള്‍), pl. — വാന്മാര്‍ & — വാളര്‍, — വാളന്മാര്‍, fem. — ളിച്ചി (& പാര്‍വ്വതിപ്പൊ ‍ തുവാടിശ്യാര് MR.) a class of half-Brahmans, temple-servants. — അകപ്പൊതുവാള്‍ (with പൂ ണുനൂല്‍) who officiate as priests & administrators of temple-property; also as menials (sweepers in Coch.). In Talip. only 35. — പുറപ്പൊതുവാള്‍ (in Talip. 1770) have no Brahm. thread, are ക്ഷേത്രപരിപാലകര്‍, cultivate science. — നായര്‍ പൊതുവാള്‍ (in Talip. 63); also മാരയാന്‍ പൊ. have to sweep. പൊതുവേ in common, universally. പൊ. ഉളള തിന്നു ചേതം വരുത്താതേ VyM. joint-stock. — also പൊതേ V1.

pa/?/uδu (fr. പഴു & = പാഴ് T. = പഴി) 1. A hole, കുടുക്കിന്‍റെ പ. V2. a button-hole; an interstice വന്പനോടു പ. നല്ലു prov.; a vacant place, ഉണ്ടപ്പഴുതു TP. the wound which the ball made ൦രംര്‍ച്ചയുടെ പ. No. = പാളിപ്പോക. അതില്‍ കടക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു പ. ഇല്ല a breach, fig. നുഴഞ്ഞു കരേറുവാന്‍ പ. കണ്ടു a loophole. ഘന മായുറച്ചുളള വൃക്ഷത്തില്‍ പ. ഉണ്ടോ VCh. (=ദ്വാ രം). പഴുതെന്നിയേ നിറഞ്ഞാനന്ദം KeiN. = densely, tightly. 2. a moment, occasion കുല ചെയ്വാന്‍ പ. ഉണ്ടായില്ല Mud.; കൊടുത്തു കൊള്‍ വാന്‍, തപ്പാന്‍ പ. കള്‍ നോക്കി Bhr. in fencing ഇല്ല പഴുതെന്നു ചിന്തിച്ചു despaired of an opening. പറവാന്‍ പഴുതില്ല no cause for. പഴുതില്ല Palg. = പാടില്ല. അപ്പഴുതറിഞ്ഞു സ്തുതിക്കേണം Mud. പഴുതാക, — യ്പോക to go for nothing. പഴുതാക്കുക to make of none effect. പറഞ്ഞ സത്യത്തെ പ'ക്കീടൊല്ലാ KR. don't break a promise, so also പഴുതിലാക്ക Sil. പഴുതാര So., പഴുതാര്‍ M. C. a centipede = കരി ങ്ങാണിത്തേള്‍ No. പഴുതേ in vain, uselessly, to no purpose (= വെറുതേ, വൃഥാ). പണം പ. കളക, also പഴുതില്‍.

pāḷuγa 1. No. = കാളുക To blaze, പാ ളിക്കത്തി; flame to rise ആ വീട്ടിനു തീ പാളി പ്പിടിച്ചു or പ്പററി. 2. to go obliquely. തുണി ചീന്തുന്പോള്‍ —, വെട്ടു പാളിപ്പോയി; ൦രംര്‍ച്ച യില്‍, മൂര്‍ച്ചയില്‍ പാളാതേ ഇരിക്ക No. slantwise. പാളിനോക്ക No. to look askance; to slink So. പാളിപ്പളുങ്ങി നടപ്പോര്‍ Nal. mendicants. അതി ലതില്‍ ഇറങ്ങിപ്പാളിയും KB. crouched. ആ രുമറിയാതേ പാളി ക്ഷപണകന്‍ വന്നു Mud. slank into his presence. പാളാന്‍ പളുങ്ങി (Er̀anāḍu) a bird; also പ ളാളാന്‍ പാ. Palg. CV. പാളിക്ക to slip obliquely, throw a stone obliquely, to make ducks & drakes. VN. പാളിച്ച No. burning sensation വയററില്‍ ഒരു പാ. പാഴ = ഭാഷ V1.

pāndam (Tdbh. of പാങ്കതം linear, regular). Fibres of a cocoanut-branch ഓലയുടെ ഞാറു, also പാന്തോം, പച്ചപ്പാന്തം (മട്ടലിന്‍റെ മേല്‍ പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന തോല്‍); also loc. പാണ്ടം.

pōḍu (C. podet the belly, breast). The navel, umbilical rupture. 2. So. പോടുണ്ടാ ക്കുക to burrow (പോതു II.). മരത്തിന്‍റെ പോ ട്ടില്‍ Arb. a hole. പാന്പിന്‍റെ പോടു Palg.

piḍuṇṇuγa T. M. (= പിടി). To pull out, extort, vex. പിടുക്കു T. M. the testicle (ഒട്ടകപ്പിടുക്കു No. Indian rubber), പീ. വീങ്ങുക rupture (Te. C. = പിണര്‍). പിടുപിടേ 1. the sound of flame crackling. 2. thick, stiff (പിടിപ്പു). പിടെക്ക, see പിട.

paṇkti S. (പഞ്ച) 1. Assembly of 5 or 10. — പ. സ്യന്ദനന്‍,— കണ്ഠന്‍, — കന്ധരന്‍ etc. = ദശമുഖന്‍ KR. 2. a line, row രഥപ. കള്‍ Bhg. — പ. ഹീനന്‍ a Brahman that has lost the right of eating with his caste.
