poḷḷa (fr. പൊളളു). 1. A tube; pipe. പൊ. വള a hollow bracelet, (opp. കട്ടിവള). പൊളളയോ കട്ടിയോ? prov. 2. the throat അവന്‍റെ പൊ. എല്ലില്‍ പിടിച്ചമര്‍ത്തു (jud. Palg.). 3. perforated, empty; a bamboo മര ങ്ങള്‍ കേടും പൊളളയും ഊനവും ഇല്ലാതേ ഇരി ക്കേണം doc. (C. puḷuku hole in trees). ചുമര്‍ പൊ. യായ്തീര്‍ന്നു (thro' white-ants). 4. blister, bubble = പോള. V2. 5. title of Pulayar chieftains, prob. from the silver-bracelet they wear; hence N. pr. of Pulayars, also പൊളള കുരു ന്തന്‍ Polōrndaǹ (see ab.). പൊളളക്കായി Cocculus Indicus = പൊളളക്കുരു V2. പൊളളച്ചീര a potherb with hollow stalks. പൊളളമുള a hollow kind of bamboo. പൊളള മുളകു blighted pepper V1. paδivraγa S. (പതി I.) Faithful to her husband, KR.— പുത്രിക്കു പ'താധര്‍മ്മങ്ങള്‍ എല്ലാം ഉപദേശിച്ചു AR. the duties of a good wife. പതിവ്രതം ദുഷ്പ്രാപമാകും Sah. = പാതിവ്രത്യം.

Grit, coarse grain, gravel; in തേററാ ന്പരല്‍ a kernel, 2. a cowry-shell = കവിടി, in astr. രാശികളില്‍ വീഴുന്ന പ. സംഖ്യയുടെ ഏ റക്കുറച്ചല്‍ TrP.; പ. എടുത്തു നിരത്തി Mud. (the astrologer for calculating). ജ്യോതിഷ ത്തിന്‍ പ. ഉണ്ടോ Pay. 3. fish newly formed from spawn (പരിഞ്ഞില്‍). പരല്പേര്‍ (2) a symbolical name in astr. computation; പരപ്പേരുകള്‍ CS. chiefly the names given by the learned to the fractions. പരല്‍മീന്‍ a river-fish with many bones V1. (also = രാജീവം Cyprinus niloticus), പ. മേ ദുരം GP.

poδuboδē B. An imitative sound (= പൊത്തനേ). പൊതുക്കുക, ക്കി 1. So. No. to smooth a mud-bank etc. by wetting & beating it gently തച്ചു പൊ. No. (or പുതുക്കുക?). 2. No പൊതുക്കിക്കെട്ടുക to tie loosely, lightly (= അഴെച്ചു).

pakkal T. M. (പകു & പക്ഷം; C. പ ക്കെ). Side; No. also വക്കല്‍, used adv. നിന്‍റെ പ. ഉണ്ടു it is with you. പ്രമാണം ചന്തു പ. ഉണ്ടു, രാജാവിന്‍റെ പക്കെന്നു (= ല്‍ നിന്നു) അ ഞ്ചാള്‍ നിശ്ചയിച്ചു TR.; പിടിച്ചു തരാഞ്ഞതു എ ന്‍റെ പ. തെററു തന്നേ TR. my fault.

puḷḷuvaǹ (പുള്‍). N. pr. A caste employed in medicine, മന്ത്രവാദം, singing at snake-groves the പുള്ളുവപ്പാട്ടു accompanied by the tap of the പുള്ളുവക്കുടം; the females (പു ള്ളുവത്തി) are midwives in the No. (61 in Taliparambu Talook).

pēḍụ T. M. (Tu. C. bōḍu hornless, — see പേടി). What is seedless, unproductive, shrivelled പൂവായത്തോട്ടത്തില്‍ പേടില്ല prov. പേ ടുകായ്ക്ക to bear shrivelled fruits. പേടായ്ക്കായ്ക്കും മരം Chs. കായി പേടായിപ്പോയി.
