poḍanna (പുടം?). As much as can be held by two hands ഒരു പൊ. അരി (= കൊടന്ന).

pāṭṭam (S. ഭാടം prh. fr. പാടു 4. 5., Te. C. pāṭi computation, proportion = പടി). 1. Rent of grounds, the Janmi's share. പാ. കെട്ടിത്തരി ക to pay it TR. പാ'ത്തിന്നു കൊടുക്ക to rent. പറന്പു നാലോരാണ്ടേക്കു പാ'ത്തിന്നു കൊടുത്തി രിക്കുന്നു (doc.) 2. stipulated proportion of produce paid in kind with grain, in money with other plantations, equal to the net produce after deduction of the seed sown & an equal quantity as reward for the labour bestowed. Kinds: നിലം ചമയപ്പാട്ടമായി പാട്ടമാ ണ്ടാന്‍ (doc.) MR. വെറുന്പാ. simple rent without advance. തരിശുപാ. നീക്കി, നടപ്പുപാ. ഇ ത്ര, മുളകു പാ. TR. പാ. നോക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു പാ' ത്തിന്നു നല്ല പരിചയമുളള ആളുകളെ കല്പിച്ചു TR. to estimate the produce പാട്ടം കെട്ടുക to fix the rent. Hence: പാട്ടക്കാണം rent പുലയടിയാന്മാരെ പാ' ത്തിന്നു കൊടുക്ക TR. to hire them out. പാട്ടക്കാരന്‍ the tenant, lessee. പാട്ടക്കുടിശ്ശിക B. arrears of rent. പാട്ടക്കുറി a deed of lease പാ. യാല്‍ നടക്ക MR. പാട്ടച്ചീട്ടു B., — ശീട്ടു MR. 1. a lease given to the tenant. 2. a written agreement given by the tenant. മറുപാ. counterpart-covenant of lease kept by the proprietor. പാട്ടനിലം, — ക്കണ്ടം, — പ്പറന്പു land rented out. പാട്ടനെല്ലു rent paid in kind, (gen. the 3rd of the crop). പാട്ടപ്പണം 1. rent paid in money ആണ്ട് ഒന്നി നാല്‍ ഒപ്പിക്കേണ്ടും പാ. ൧൬; വക രണ്ടില്‍ തരേണ്ടും പാ.൧൫ (doc.) TR. 2. a fee due on it. പാട്ടപ്രവൃത്തി the office of rent-gatherer, victualler in temples. പാട്ടമാളി (doc. MR.) & പാട്ടാളി. 1. a collector of rents for Rājas (വാണിയം പാട്ടാളി കാര്യ ക്കാരന്‍ TP.), temples. 2. (like prec.) a manager of temple-property, generally hereditary (one of the കാരാളര്‍). പാട്ടാവകാശം MR. possession by a lease; claim of rent. പാട്ടോല, (So. പാട്ടയോല) a deed of lease എഴു തിക്കൊടുത്ത പാ.; പാ. ക്കാലം തികഞ്ഞു the lease is expired — ഉഭയപ്പാ. ക്കരണം a lease of ricefields — പാ'ക്കാരന്‍ MR. a tenant.

pēd/?/yam (Tdbh. of ഭേ — ) Maltreatment, slight tortures employed to extort confession etc.

paγyiḍa = പകട. 1. An ace. 2. drafts, a peculiar game played on two pieces of brass or ivory. പ. കളികളുമരുതു SiPu.; പ. കളിക്ക Nal. 3. a testicle (=അണ്ഡം). പ. തിരുന്പുക to geld young cattle; (later in life ഉടെക്ക).

pariṇṇal (fr. പരിക്കു). 1. Scratched surface, hurt skin. 2. V1. the roe of fish, rather പരിഞ്ഞില്‍. 3. griet, distraction. പരിങ്ങു V1. the hilt of a sword (or — ഞ്ഞു) പരിങ്ങുക 1. to be perplexed. 2. to lie in wait, steal V1; to pluck grass B. CV. പരിങ്ങിക്ക to confound.

puṇari T. aM. (C. stream). The sea പുണരിവണ്ണന്‍ RC.

pōrkuγa T. aM. (Te. prōgu to heap). 1. To wrap (= പൊതിയുക), to cloak പോര്‍ത്തമരത്തുകിലാം തുകിലും RC. 2. to soak palm-leaves = ഓല പൊതിര്‍ക്ക. VN. പോര്‍പ്പു (T. cloak) swelling as from stripes. പോര്‍ച്ചി N. pr. f. (Tīyatti).

pōδam S. 1. The young of any animal, also dimin. കോകിലപോതകം CG.; വാ തപോതങ്ങള്‍ Bhg. zephyrs. 2. a boat ദുരി താബ്ധിതന്‍ നടുവില്‍ മറിയുന്നവര്‍ക്കു പരം ഒരു പോതമായ്വരിക HNK.; രാമപാദപോതം കൊ ണ്ടു സംസാരവാരിധിയെക്കടക്ക AR. 3. Tdbh. = ബോധം.
