mala 5. (മല്‍). 1. A mountain, higher than കുന്നു f. i. മാമലHimālaya & Mēru, Bhg. തിരു വില്വമാമല. 2. raised land, hill-land (= മ ലനാടു, മലയം); in N. pr. f. i. മലപ്പുറം. 3. that which lives or is found in mountains മലയാടു, മലഞ്ചേരട്ട, മലയിഞ്ചി etc. (see Cpds.). മലക്കം (T. shaking) standing upright & bending the head backwards, B.; a kind of ചാ ട്ടം or മറിച്ചല്‍ No. മലക്കാരി a deity of Kur̀ichiars. മലങ്ക Malayāḷam KU. മലങ്കരു a rivulet (doc.) മലങ്കറി vegetables. മലങ്കിളി, മലന്തത്ത a small parrot V1. Nid. a kind of impotency. 4. little bells, worn as jewels മ. കിലുക്കുക; hence also Brahman's bell (an āchāram ഘണ്ടം S.), a gong ആനെക്കു മ. കെട്ടുക prov. മ. ഇളക്കുക, കിലുക്കു ക to ring a bell. മുട്ടുക, തട്ടുക, കൊട്ടുക to strike a bell. നാഴികമ. meδi (T. മി, C. Te. med & meṭ, Tdbh. of മൃദ്). 1. Treading on; treading out grain കൊയ്ത്തും മിതിയും V1. 2. = മെതിമരം f. i. a threshing machine, മെതിയും മുക്കാലിക്കാലും വലിച്ചു MR. (parts of ഏത്തം). മെതിക്ക 1. To tread as loam, trample. — CV. പാഷാണം മെതിപ്പിച്ചു Sk. 2. to thrash നെ ല്ലു മെതിച്ചതും മെതിക്കാത്തതും MR. — CV. ൧൦൦൦ കററ മെതിപ്പിച്ചു മണിയാക്കി MR. 3. = മെ തിയുക to be assuaged, ദീനം മെതിച്ചു കാണു ന്നു vu. = ശമിച്ചു. മെതിക്കല്ലു V1. a door-lintel. മെതിമരം the step-board near or over a well, treadle of a weaver's loom etc. മെതിയം 1. a plank over the door (see മതിയം). 2. pieces of wood by which oars are kept in their places V1. മെതിയടി wooden shoes as worn by Brahmans & devotees KU. നല്ല മെ. തൊട്ടു പദങ്ങളില്‍ KR. — സൂചിമെ. slippers with nails or needles in them for austerities' sake. മെതിയാല V1. a kind of mortar. മെതിയുക (= മൃദുവാക?). To be bruised പാ തി മെതിഞ്ഞൊരു താംബൂലം തന്നുടെ വായ്കൊ ണ്ടു നല്കി CG. തേങ്ങ അരെച്ചിട്ടു മെതിഞ്ഞില്ല No. bruised but not sufficiently ground.

maṇṇuγa T. M. (from മഴു, മാഴ് Te. Tu. C. maṇku, see under മങ്ക). To grow dim, wan, pale സൂര്യനും മങ്ങിനാന്‍ KR. മങ്ങിക്ക ത്തുക (a lamp). മങ്ങിയനിറം faded. നേത്രങ്ങള്‍ മങ്ങിത്തുടങ്ങി Nal. ChVr. — fig. എന്മനം മങ്ങുകയാല്‍ CG. obscured, confused. മങ്ങാതേ with undiminished brightness. മ. ഉള്ള സുവര്‍ണ്ണങ്ങള്‍ Mud. fine gold coins. മങ്ങാതേ നിന്നു പോര്‍ ചെയ്യും Mud. = തളരാതേ. — മ ങ്ങാത പുത്രര്‍ Bhr. excellent, splendid boys. മങ്ങിക്ക rather freq. than CV. ദൃഷ്ടികള്‍ മങ്ങി ച്ചതു കണ്ടു Bhg 6. മങ്ങിതം No. (So. മങ്ങല്‍ VN.). 1. dimness, fainting light, cloudy sky, also മങ്ങതം, മ ങ്ങുഴം & മങ്ങൂഴം (prov. T. മങ്കുലം & — ളം), loc. 2. aM. മങ്കിതം purulent matter. മരി യായ്കില്‍ മങ്കിതവും ചോരയും നീരും വരും, നീരും മ'വും ഒഴുകി ഇരിക്കില്‍, മ'വും ചുക്കി ലവും രത്തവും ഉണ്ടാകില്‍ MM. മങ്ങ് Palg. a kind of tares growing in rice-fields (ചേററുകണ്ടം) when not under water.

mallam 1. = മല്ല or മല്ലകം S. A vessel of a cocoa-nut shell. 2. collyrium B. (fr. മലം?). 3. = മല്ലു, the ribs of a ship inserted in the keel (പാണ്ടി).

mattụ 1. Tdbh. of മത്തം. Intoxication vu. മസ്തുas മ. പിടിക്ക, കയറുക, കുടിമത്തു etc. 2. Tdbh. of മഥി a churn-staff; a rammer. 3. So. a trap or snare for elephants മ. വെച്ചു പിടിക്ക MC. a cruel mode of catching them. മത്താന്പുല്ലു So. a grass in corn-fields. മത്തിക്ക So. to be sweet — VN. മത്തിപ്പു B. മത്തേഭം S. see മത്തവാരണം.
