lauγiγam S. (ലോകം). 1. Worldly, secular, mundane. അവന്‍ ലൌന്‍ (opp. ജ്ഞാ നി). 2. popular, customary ലൌ. അല്ല നൂനം വൈദികം അതുമല്ല Bhr. neither usual nor scriptural. അവനു ലൌ. നന്നായറിഞ്]ു കൂടാ Arb. (opp. ശാസ്ത്രങ്ങള്‍); കര്‍മ്മങ്ങള്‍ ലൌ'ത്തി ന്നു ചെയ്യേണം Bhg. to please others, not for your own self. 3. honorable bearing, politeness of a perfect man of the world സ്ത്രീകളെ കൊന്നതു ലൌ. എന്നുണ്ടോ Anj. gentlemanly. ലൌ'മല്ലാതുള്ള വാക്കു PT. ലൌകികമാധുര്യം, ലൌ. വിട്ടു കയര്‍ത്തു പോയേന്‍ Nal. I grew impudent. ലൌകികാത്മനാ കനിഞ്ഞരുള്‍ ചെ യ്തു Bhr. condescendingly. 4. kind words, salutation ലൌ. കൂടാതുള്ള സല്‍ക്കാരങ്ങള്‍ PT. വ is next related to പ (വകു = പകു, വിഷഹാരി = പിടാരന്‍, തറവാടു fr. പാടു), ബ (വാലിയം = ബാല്യം, വതല്‍ = ബദല്‍), മ (മിന = വിന, മിഴുങ്ങുക & വി —, തിന്മാന്‍). Initial വ is sometimes the result of a lost ഉ (വാദ്ധ്യാന്‍, വാവു), sometimes it slides into ഒ (ഒല്ലാ = വല്ലാ, വണ്ണം, ശിവപുരം, ചോവരം); in composition it can be lost (വേണം, വരിക, വിടുക), or becomes യ (നെടുവിരിപ്പു, നെടിയിരിപ്പു). In several words it passes into ക (ചുവന്ന, ചുകന്ന; ചേ കം fr. സേവ) & vice versa (രാകുക, രാവുക). Of old it served to keep vowels asunder (അ വന്‍ = a + aǹ, അവിടേ, മിക്കവാറു).

likbiδam S. part, pass.; (രിഖ്) Written, scratched കുമരന്‍ ലിഖിതപുസ്തകം MM. (= എഴുതിയ). എന്‍റെ ലി. Genov. letter. ശിരസി മമ ലി. ഇദം എന്നേ പറയാവു Mud. = തലയെഴു ത്തു. — നരപതിലിഖിതന്‍ VyM. a writer. ലിഖ്യപ്രകരണം N. pr. a book showing how documents are to be drawn up.

lammi (loc.) Lewd, dissolute. ലമ്മാണികള്‍ C. Tu. M. (H. Te. T. ലന്പാടി) a caste of wandering dealers in corn, Banjārā H. = എരുതുകാര്‍, ചെണ്ടുകാര്‍ Cann. ലന്പാടികള്‍ (see ab.) taking goods fr. Wayanāḍ/?/ to the coast on pack-oxen. — ലന്പാ ടിക്കന്നു Palg. bullocks brought for sale from Koṇṇ/?/.

lēham S. (ലിഹ്, L. lingo). An electuary തിന്നുക med. ലേ. കൂട്ടുക V2. to make a confection. വില്വലേ. (for cough) etc. ലേഹ പാകം cooking. ലേഹനം S. licking, ലേ. ചെയ്ക etc. ലേഹ്യം S. food (of Gods); = ലേഹം (med.). ലൈംഗം S. (ലിംഗം 2.). N.pr. a Purāṇam, Bhg.

E. roll, Pulley. ല occurs chiefly in S. & foreign words; Māpiḷḷas often pronounce ല where ര is original (ലണ്ടു, ലാസ്ത്രി = രാത്രി).

lalāḍam S. The forehead മൃത്യു വന്നു ല ലാടസീമനി നൃത്തകേളി തുടര്‍ന്നു ChVr.

laḷiδam S. (part. pass. of ലല്). Dallying, playful, delicate, delightful കനകമണി ല. ഒരു മാലയും Mud. മണില'കന്ധരം Bhr. അതിലളിതകളേബരം Nal. ഈ ശാസ്ത്രം കുറ യ ല. (opp. ഗംഭീരം). ലളിതോക്തികള്‍ Nal. amusing talk, attractive fiction. ലളിത a lovely woman; also = ദേവി (Sakti).
