čer̀u (see ചിറു) Small, little, mean. adj. ചെറിയ neut. ചെറുതു & ചെറിയതു. ചെറു പയര്‍മണി ചെറുതു (so ചെറുകയര്‍, ചെറുകി ണര്‍ etc.) prov. — ചെറിയന്നെടുത്തു പോററി TP. when he was young, from a baby. ചെറി യന്നേ Bhr. ചെറിയന്നാളത്തേക്കളി Anj. plays of childhood = ചെറുതായി കളിക്കും നാള്‍ Bhg. ചെറുതു also = ചെററു (ചെറുതു കാലം കൊണ്ടു KR.) Hence: ചെറിചക്കി B. a white faced monkey. ചെറിയ 1. with N. pr. of plants etc. (see simpl.). 2. N. pr. of females. ചെറുകച്ച cloth over the privities ചെറുകിട young, little. — childhood.

(= ചില്ലറ) small articles of daily use as bought in the bazar. ആ ളുകള്‍ക്ക് അരിയും ചില്വാനങ്ങളും കൊടുക്ക provisions. പട്ടാളത്തില്‍ അരി ചില്ലാനം എത്തേണ്ടതിന്നു, സിപ്പായ്കള്‍ക്കു അരി ചി ല്വാനം വില്പിക്ക TR. supplies.

čāṇa (Tdbh., ശാ —) 1. Whetstone, grinding stone ചാണകള്‍ വെച്ചു കടഞ്ഞു തെളിഞ്ഞു ള്ള ബാണം KR. ഉറുമ്മികൊണ്ടച്ചാണെക്കു വെ ച്ചോളുന്നു TP. ചാണെക്കിടുക to grind. 2. a similar piece or lump: പിലാച്ചാ. of jackwood, പുളിഞ്ചാണ of tamarind fruit, etc. Previous page Next page

čoṭṭu T.M. 1. A slap on the head ചൊ. കൊണ്ടാലും prov. — met. തലെക്ക ഒരു ചൊ. disappointment; ചൊട്ടുപിണഞ്ഞു, ഒരു ചൊ. കിഴിഞ്ഞു (superst.) a curse, disease, etc. has alighted on him. 2. = പൊട്ടു mark on the forehead with Sandal paste etc. ചൊട്ടുതൊടുക = തൊട്ടുകുറി; kinds ഇരുവയിനാടന്‍ ചൊ. TP. etc. Hence: ചൊട്ടുകത്തി Mpl. = ചൊട്ടവാള്‍. ചൊട്ടുക (C. സൊണ, T. So. to drop, rain) 1. To rap with the knuckles, knock with the finger, chiefly on the head; also ചൊട്ടി നോ ക്ക No. = കൊട്ടിനോക്ക. 2. to be disappointed. വ യറുചൊട്ടിപ്പോയി abortus. കാര്യം ചൊ. proved abortive. തമ്മില്‍ ചൊ. they fell out.
