E. roll, Pulley. ല occurs chiefly in S. & foreign words; Māpiḷḷas often pronounce ല where ര is original (ലണ്ടു, ലാസ്ത്രി = രാത്രി).

laġnam S. (part. pass. of ലഗ് to adhere). 1. Attached. 2. the rising of a sign, ശുഭലഗ്നേ ജാതനായി, ഉത്ഭവിച്ചു കുംഭലഗ്നേ Brhmd. auspicious hour (opp. ദുര്‍ല്ല.), മകരമ ല്ലോ ല. പെരിക ശുഭമതു Bhr.; ല'ങ്ങളായി പ്ര കാശിച്ചു Nal. (sparks of a star or meteor).

lāla S. Saliva, ലാലാനീര്‍ V2. (see ലാള —). ലാലാടികന്‍ S. (ലലാടം) an attentive servant; idler, swaggerer.

laḷiδam S. (part. pass. of ലല്). Dallying, playful, delicate, delightful കനകമണി ല. ഒരു മാലയും Mud. മണില'കന്ധരം Bhr. അതിലളിതകളേബരം Nal. ഈ ശാസ്ത്രം കുറ യ ല. (opp. ഗംഭീരം). ലളിതോക്തികള്‍ Nal. amusing talk, attractive fiction. ലളിത a lovely woman; also = ദേവി (Sakti).
