tar̀a T. M. (C. തരവു, fr. C. Te. തറു to sink in) 1. Foundation (പല്ലിനു തറ ഇട്ടു the tooth is forming); the stone-rows of a house, the site of a house. 2. a mound, elevated ground; an altar, as പൂത്തറ, കല്‍ത്തറ, മണ്‍തറ V1.; ആറാട്ടുതറ; for a marriage ചെത്തിയടിച്ചു പുര ത്തില്‍ എങ്ങും നല്‍ത്തറയിട്ടു മെഴുകിയല്ലോ Anj.; a mound raised at the bottom of a tree, നികും ഭില ആല്ത്തറമേലേറി AR., അരയാ (ല്‍) ത്തറ etc. ആല്‍ത്തറമുകളേറി കാററും ഏററിരിക്കും SiPu. 3. ground (in T. = ധര) നിന്നെ അടല്‍ത്തറ മേല്‍ വീഴ്ത്തി RC. (= കളം). കളിക്കുന്ന തറ stage; a small district, parish (now ദേശം), ഞാന്‍ ത റതറകള്‍ക്ക ഒക്കയും ആളെ അയച്ചു TR. Similar to തെരു, a village, quarter; chiefly നായര്‍തറ, but also ആണ്ടി —, കമ്മാള —, വേട്ടുവത്തറ Palg.; country-places, Mofussil, Cann. 4. nailing, rivetting (= തറെപ്പു) ത. പിടിക്ക to rivet. see തറി 4. Hence: തറക്കാര്‍ (3) Cann. those living in the country, Mofussilites. തറകെട്ടുക (1. 2) to raise a mound, to surround a mound with stones, lay a foundation. തറക്കെട്ടു = l. the stone-foundation of a house. തറയുക to be fixed, പച്ചവൃക്ഷത്തില്‍ ആണി ത റയും കണക്കനേ KeiN. (compar. to attentive hearing). തറവാടു (പാടു) 1. a house, chiefly of noblemen (൩൨തറവാട്ടുനായര്‍ under Porḷātiri), ancestral residence of land-owners നായായി പി റക്കിലും തറവാട്ടില്‍ പിറക്കേണം prov. 2. family. തറവാട്ടുകാരന്‍, (& തറവാടി B.) a householder, great proprietor; a Sūdra of the 6 uppermost classes (കുറുപ്പു etc.); member of the family, jud.; (mod.) educated & well to do people in any caste, മാനമര്യാദക്കാരന്‍. തറവാടുപുലര്‍ത്തി (loc.) = നടുതലക്കോപ്പുകള്‍. തറവാട്ടുമുതല്‍ unalienable family-property.

tōr̀ụ (C. appearance = തോന്നുക) in: തോറും T. M. as much as appears, all, each, നാ ടുതോറും ഭാഷ prov., അവരെ പീഠങ്ങള്‍ തോ. വസിപ്പിച്ചു SiPu., അന്യദേശങ്ങള്‍ തോ. Anach., ഓരോരോ ദിക്കുകള്‍ തോ. നടന്നു VetC., നാള്‍തോറും daily. മാസംതോ. monthly. With adj. part. കാണുന്നതോറും VCh. the more we see, കണ്ട തോ. Bhr. കരിക്കട്ട കഴുകുന്തോറും കറുക്കും prov. the more you wash. വയസ്സേറച്ചെല്ലുന്തോറും വാര്‍ദ്ധക്യം കൊണ്ടു വില കുറഞ്ഞു കുറഞ്ഞിരിക്കും CS. the older a cow, the less its value. കേള്‍ക്കുന്തോ റും മതിയാകയില്ല Bhg. (VN. of തോന്നുക) 1. rise (of the sun), appearance, അവന്‍ ഒരു മനുജന്‍ ഇതി മാനസേ നിണക്കു തോററം ബലാല്‍ AR. to thee he seems a mere man. 2. a show, spectacle, festivity തോ. കഴിക്ക etc. ഉണ്ടാ കവേണ്ടും ഒരു തോ. RC96. esp. a hymn in honour of Bhagavati. തോ. ഒപ്പിക്ക, ചൊ ല്ലുക, തോററക്കളം പാടുക to sing it. തോററം വിളിക്ക V2. to sing children asleep. തോ ററുവിളി & തോററുവിളി also a play-song. തോററുക (v. a. of തോന്നുക) aM. taraṇġam S. tuvaruγa 1. To grow dry, മഴതു.; V1. തുവര്‍ച്ച, (contr. No. തോര്‍ച്ച & often confounded with ചോര്‍ച്ച) fair weather. 2. (T. തുവന്‍റു = രൂരുക) to be filled up, as wells, etc. see തു കരുക. തുവര്‍ക്കുക T. M. = ചവര്‍ക്ക, (see തുവര്‍). തുവര്‍ത്തുക, (T. തുവട്ടുക, Te. ദുവ്വു) 1. to make dry, to wipe clean, കുളിച്ചു കയറി ഓന്‍ തോ ര്‍ത്തുന്നു TP. 2. So. to remove superfluous water out of a ricefield, (after sowing). തുവര്‍മ്മ V2. = തൂര്‍മ്മ. density.

tuyil T. aM. (=തൂങ്ങുക) 1. Sleep, തു യിലുറങ്ങാള്‍ Pay. she cannot sleep. പാലാഴി യില്‍ തുയില്‍ കൊള്ളുന്ന Bhr. തുയില്‍ ഒഴിന്തെ ഴു മന്നാ RC. (said to the dead Rāvaṇa). പെരി ന്തുയില്‍ Anj. death. 2. = തുകില്‍ cloth, പട്ടുടു ത്ത് ഒററത്തൊയിലും വെച്ചുTP. തുയിലുക to sleep. ഇകലില്‍ തുയിലുമതു ഒരു കൂ റല്ല RC. it is not right to sleep in war. അര വില്‍ തുയിലുന്ന RC., അരവില്‍ തുയിലും കൃ ഷ്ണന്‍ Pay.

H. ṭōpi 1. A hat, cap. ചര്‍മ്മം തൊപ്പിയും KR. ചട്ടയും തൊപ്പിയും Mud. a helmet. തൊ. ഇടുക, ഇട്ടുകളക to turn Mussulman. 2. the husk of seeds, pericarp or cup of a cocoanut or betel-nut. തൊപ്പികിട്ടുക (തോല്വി?) to be defeated at play; ironically: to deserve a cap? — തൊ പ്പിയാക id. tiraṭṭu T. M. (തിരള്‍) 1. Assemblage; abstract of accounts. മുളകു ചാര്‍ത്തി വന്ന ഒട്ടു ക്കുള്ള തി. TR. the sum total, also തിരട്ടു ക ണക്കു adding up a sum. കുറുന്തിരട്ടു a short abstract. 2. തിരട്ടുകഞ്ഞി, തി'കുളി etc., what refers to the first menstruation; (തിരട്ടുകല്യാ ണം = വയസ്സറിയിക്കും കല്യാണം). തിരട്ടുക 1. So. to ball up, (= തിരയു 1.). 2. തി രട്ടിവെക്ക to perform a ceremony for a girl of 5-6 years, in preparation of marriage (putting her aside, as if for the first menstruation).
