bhiṇṇaǹ (aC. biṇ stout, Tu. buṇa pole). Stout, heavy അന്പങ്ങു ഭിണ്ണനും കൊ ണ്ടൊരുനേരം RS. the blockhead (Rāvaṇa). ഭിണ്ണാകാരം gross (fr. പിണ്ഡം).

bhaṭṭaǹ S. (= ഭര്‍ത്താ). Lord, title of learned Brahmans, (Tdbh. പട്ടര്‍). ഭട്ടതിരി, vu. പട്ടേരി the highest class of Kēraḷa Brahmans; also called ഭട്ടാചാര്യര്‍ teachers of philosophy, who restored Brahmanism after the Bauddha rule KU. — ഭട്ടാ ചാര്യന്‍gen. = Kumārilabhaṭṭa.

bhūrǰam & bhūrǰapatram S. A birch-tree, the bark of which was used for writing, & for winding round the Hooka-snake (vu. ഭുജപത്രം).

bhikša S. (desid. of ഭജ്). 1. Begging ഭിക്ഷെക്കു പോക; ശത്രുവിന്‍റെ ഭവനത്തില്‍ ഭി ക്ഷെക്കു ചെല്ലും VyM. (a curse). 2. alms ഭി. ഇരന്നല്ലോ ഭക്ഷണം Anj. ഭി. കൊള്ളുന്ന ജനം VCh. ഭി. തേടുക to collect alms before a temple, paying tithes of them. ഭി. ഏററു നടക്ക Anach, so ചോദിക്ക, എടുക്ക, കഴിക്ക; ഭി. കിട്ടിയതെല്ലാം ഭുജിക്ക Bhg. ഭിക്ഷക്കാരന്‍ a beggar, also ഭിക്ഷവാണിയന്‍ V1. ഭിക്ഷാപത്രം, ഭിക്ഷക്കത്തു (mod.) a begging-letter. ഭിക്ഷാടനം S. going about begging ഭി'ത്തിന്നാ യാചാര്യനും വരും Sah. (loc. a begging tour). പന്തീരാണ്ടു ഭി. ചെയ്ക KN. ഭിക്ഷാദാനം S. charity V1. ഭിക്ഷാണം S. food received in charity ഭി. ന ല്ലൊരണം ഉണ്ടു GnP. ഭിക്ഷാര്‍ത്ഥി Bhg. ഭിക്ഷാശി, ഭിക്ഷു, ഭിക്ഷുകരന്‍ S. a beggar.

bhayam S. (ഭീ). l. Fear അധമനു മരണ ത്തിങ്കല്‍നിന്നു ഭ. Bhr. ഒരുത്തരെ ഭ. ഇല്ലെനിക്കു KR. കള്ളന്മാരുടെ ഭ. കൊണ്ടു TR. from fear of thieves. നയമായിട്ടും ഭയമായിട്ടും എഴുതി TR. with kindness & threats. 2. danger അഗ്നി ഭ., പ്രാണഭ., അഞ്ചുഭ. Dat. Loc. Abl. രണ്ടിങ്കല്‍ ഭ. Bhr. ഭയപ്പെടുക്ക to frighten മുഷ്കരമായി ഭ'ക്കും VCh. Nal. Bhg. — mod. ഭയപ്പെടുത്തുക (കുടിയാ ന്മാരോടു TR.); also നന്നെ ഭയപ്പെടുത്തിച്ചു & കുടിയാന്മാരെ ഭയപ്പെടീപ്പിക്കയും TR. ഭയഭക്തി devoutness, devotion. ഭയശീലന്‍ timid, a coward (opp. ഭയഹീനന്‍). ഭയാനകം S. terrific, Bhr. ഭയാപഹം S. removing fear, അവനോടു പറ യേണം ഭ. VyM. consolingly. ഭയാര്‍ത്തന്‍ S. tormented with fear.

bhāṇu S.( ഭാ).The sun ഭാനുമയങ്ങുന്നു Bhr.; also ഭാനുമാര്‍ (shining). ഭാനുവിക്രമന്‍ N. pr. the first Sāmanta ruler in Trav. KM.; title of the 4th in Calicut etc. ഭാമിനി S. (ഭാമം S. light, rage). Radient, passionate f. (a wife).

bhakšaγaǹ S. (G. phagein). An eater, glutton. പത്ര—, മൂല—, തോയ—, വായു ഭ'ന്മാര്‍ Nal. devotees with different ways of living. ഭക്ഷണം S. 1. eating, food, esp. any thing besides rice V1. 2. No. meal രണ്ടുനേരം ഭ'ത്തിന്നു തൃക്കൈയില്‍ വന്നു പോവാന്‍ TR.; ഭ. നല്ല ഗുണമാക്കി Ti. said of a grateful servant (see ചോറു). ഭക്ഷണമുറി, — ശാല a dining room. denV. ഭക്ഷിക്ക to eat, dine രണ്ടുനേരം ഭ'ക്കേ ണ്ടത് ഒരുനേരം ഭ'ച്ചിട്ടും TR. however I ourtail my expenses, by giving up one of the 2 daily meals. മുനിമാരെയും ഭ'ന്നു AR. said of Rāvaṇa. — (part. pass. ഭക്ഷിതം). ഭക്ഷ്യം S. eatable പാണിപാദങ്ങള്‍്ക്കഞ്ചു നഖമു ള്ള പ്രാണികള്‍ ഭ'മായുള്ളതല്ലല്ലോ മുള്ളനും നല്ലുടുന്പുകള്‍ വാള്‍്പുലി അല്ലയോ മുയലാമയും എന്നിവ KR4.; soഭക്ഷ്യാഭക്ഷ്യവും lawful & forbidden food. ഭക്ഷ്യഭോജ്യാദികളില്‍ കൊ ടുക്കവശ്യം Tantr. in any food.

bhīsaṇam S. (caus. of ഭീ). Frightening മഹാവനം ഭീ. ഭയങ്കരം Nal. ദണ്ഡിയെ ക്കാള്‍ അതിഭീ'മായി CG. — അധികഭീഷണനായ കാശ്മീരനാഥന്‍ Mud. awful. ഭീ'മായുള്ള വാക്കു കള്‍ Mud. threats. ഭീഷണി 1. a form of Kāḷi. 2. frightening ഭീ. കാട്ടുക, ഭീ. പ്രകാരത്തെ ചെയ്ക Nal. to terrify; esp. of threats ഭീരുവാം നിന്നുടെ ഭീ. കേട്ടപ്പോള്‍ SG നിന്നുടെ ഭീ. നമ്മോടു കൂടുമോ KR. thy menaces will not affect me. ഭീഷ്മം = ഭീമം S. — ഭീഷ്മര്‍ N. pr. son of Santanu.
