(compar. to attentive hearing). തറവാടു (പാടു) 1. a house, chiefly of noblemen (൩൨തറവാട്ടുനായര്‍ under Porḷātiri), ancestral residence of land-owners നായായി പി റക്കിലും തറവാട്ടില്‍ പിറക്കേണം prov. 2. family. തറവാട്ടുകാരന്‍, (& തറവാടി B.) a householder, great proprietor; a Sūdra of the 6 uppermost classes (കുറുപ്പു etc.); member of the family, jud.; (mod.) educated & well to do people in any caste, മാനമര്യാദക്കാരന്‍. തറവാടുപുലര്‍ത്തി (loc.) = നടുതലക്കോപ്പുകള്‍. തറവാട്ടുമുതല്‍ unalienable family-property.
