pīr̀u So. = പീത്ത (T. to tear). പീററ an old, sickly cocoanut tree, yielding little fruit, So. പാററ. q. v.

puram S. (= പൂര്‍, പുര). 1. A fort, town. 2. a house (അന്ത:പുരം). പരദ്വാരം S. city-gate KR. പുരദ്വിട്ട് S. (ദ്വിഷ്) the city destroyer, Siva. പു'ട്ടിനെ സംഭാവിച്ചു Bhg.; also പുരമഥ നന്‍, പുരഭിത്തു, പുരരിപു. പുരന്ദരന്‍ S. the fort-breaker, Indra. Bhr. പുരപ്രീതി S. popularity. അവന്‍റെ പു. ഘോ ഷിച്ചു കഴിപ്പിച്ചു Mud. a feast designed to gain popularity. പുരസ്ഥന്‍ S. an inhabitant KR. & പുരവാസി. പുരട്ടാതി T. So. = പൂരുട്ടാതി the month Sept. ഇ പ്പിരട്ടാതി മാസത്തില്‍ KR. (ഇതു ചിങ്ങമാസം).

pir̀ukkụ (Te. purugu an insect = പുഴു?). 1. A gnat, musquito ആനപ്പി. the largest kind (see കൊതു). പിറുക്കും കൊറുക്കും ഒന്നു prov. 2. B. a toad. 3. N. pr. fem. also പിറുക്കാച്ചി fem.; പിറുക്കന്‍ N. pr. male. പിറുപിറുക്ക (V1. പൊറുപുറുക്ക) Onomat. to murmur, grumble, mutter (also to drizzle, So.).

pāyuγa T. M. C. 1. To run against, as bulls, കണ്ണുകള്‍ ആ മേനിയില്‍ പാഞ്ഞു CG. (= ചാടുക). 2. to leap, rush out അവിടം മു റിഞ്ഞാല്‍ ചോര പാഞ്ഞു മരിക്കും a. med.; to flee വാതിലടെച്ചു പായാന്‍ നോക്കുന്നു, പേടിച്ചു പാ ഞ്ഞുപോയി TR. പാഞ്ഞൂട്ടു TP. fled. പായാതേ നി ല്ലുനില്‍ Bhr.; പാഞ്ഞിതു ഭൂമിയില്‍ Bhr. jumped. pāγuγa (T. പാവുക, C. Tu. hāku). 1. To lay things regularly on the ground, പാകിയ നൂല്‍ yarn warped; to lay a ceiling, to board അട്ടം പാകുക, പലക പാവിയ പുര; to build a ship തേക്കു കൊണ്ട് അടിപായി TP. 2. to fix in the ground regularly തേങ്ങാ പാ കുന്ന സ്ഥലം a nursery of palm-plants; ഞാറു പാകി നടുക to sow thickly for transplantation, so അടക്ക, പിലാക്കുരു, കാപ്പിക്കുരു, മുളകു etc. 3. v. n. to be fixed. വേര്‍ പാകി നില്ക്ക CG. to be well rooted. മേഘങ്ങള്‍ പാകിനിന്നു CG. in the sky. പാകും ഒണ്‍കിരണങ്ങള്‍ RC. rays of the sun (dense? fixed?). ഞരന്പു പാകീട്ടൊ ട്ടേറ ഛര്‍ദ്ദിക്ക Nid. prominent veins? paḍi 5. (പടുക, see പട 3.) 1. A step, stair, esp. = വാതില്‍പടി, ചേററുപ. threshold. പ. കയറിച്ചെന്നു TP. entered the house. നിവൃ ത്തി വരുത്താഞ്ഞാല്‍ കുഞ്ഞികുട്ടിക്കു പ. അടെച്ചു കിടപ്പാന്‍ സങ്കടം തന്നേ ആകുന്നു TR. to retire to rest; പടിക്കല്‍ PT., നായരുടെ പടിക്കല്‍ പ ണി ചെയ്യുന്ന (jud.) at the gate. പണിക്കരേ പടിക്കുന്നു ൩ അടിമ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു പോയി TR.; വേണ്ടും പദാര്‍ത്ഥങ്ങള്‍ ഒക്കയും ഇപ്പടിക്കല്‍ ഓളം വരും KU. a blessing on a residence. പടി ക്കത്തുടങ്ങി പടിഞ്ഞാററിലോളം SiPu. through the whole house, from the eastern entrance. In Palg. any compound-or yard-door. 2. a bench (ചാരുപടി), plank in a boat (മഞ്ചിപ്പ.), a sill of a door or window (കുറുന്പ., മേല്പ., കീ ഴ്പ.). എഴുത്താണിപ്പടി a stick with a groove for whetting the style. ത്രാസിന്‍റെ ഒരു പ. a scale of balances. 3. degree, measure (= നാഴി) esp. of rice (whence 'paddy'), 1 പടി Palg. = 15/l6 of 1 No. Iṭaṇga/?/i.; weight of gold. poδuboδē B. An imitative sound (= പൊത്തനേ). പൊതുക്കുക, ക്കി 1. So. No. to smooth a mud-bank etc. by wetting & beating it gently തച്ചു പൊ. No. (or പുതുക്കുക?). 2. No പൊതുക്കിക്കെട്ടുക to tie loosely, lightly (= അഴെച്ചു).

pappaḍam (C.Tu. happaḷam. S. പര്‍പ്പ ടം). A thin, crisp cake of ഉഴുന്നു; one kind is ക്ഷാരപപ്പടം GP.; ഉരുക്കുനെയ്യില്‍ ചുട്ട പ. TP. പപ്പടക്കല്ലു a millstone തിരിക്കല്ലു, taxed MR. പപ്പടക്കാരം = potass. പപ്പടച്ചെട്ടി a caste of cakemakers, Jainas (114 at Taḷiparambu).

paḍala T. M. (പടല്‍) 1. A cluster or comb of plantains. പ. വിരിഞ്ഞു the bunch has branched out, also എത്ര പടലം ഈ കുലയില്‍ (= ചീപ്പു). 2. (പടല്‍ 1.) a rough harrow (of ഇല്ലിക്കോല്‍). പ. വലിക്ക (Palg.), ഇടുക (Weṭṭ.) to harrow; met. എന്നെപ്പടലവലിച്ചു കൊണ്ടു പോയി he quarrelled with me & dragged me for some distance.
