A drum, പെരിന്പറ etc.; മാനസം പറ യെപ്പോലേ CG. sounding, but empty. 2. a circle, disk of the moon. 3. a rice measure of 8 or 10 Iḍangā/?/i, or 6 തൂണി & 4 നാഴി, ഒത്ത പ. MR. of 10 Id., also പാട്ടപ്പറ, മുദ്ര പ്പറ MR.; നെല്പറയും അരിപിപറയും വെച്ചു KU. in temples; നിറപറവെക്ക offering at a coronation etc. (gold-coins & other gifts). മുന്നൂറു പറക്കണ്ടം a field which requires 300 Par̀a of seed. 4. (= പറി) ചൂണ്ടല്‍പ്പറ a fishing- rod. 5. (= പറവ) bird. 6. what belongs to Par̀ayars. Hence. പറക്കാര a thistle (Genesis 3.) പറക്കള്ളി (7) a Par̀aya woman. പറക്കുടി (7) a Par̀aya hut, also പറമാടം. പറക്കുലം the Par̀aya tribe ബ്രാഹ്മണബാല ന്മാര്‍ ഉപനയം കഴിവോളം പ. Anach. പറക്കൊട്ട (3) a measuring basket. പറകെട്ടി Cymbidium aloifolinm (കാഞ്ഞിരപ്പ. an Epidendron on Strychnos; see under തുടി). പറച്ചുണ്ട a sensitive plant, Mimosa B. or Lycopodium. പറച്ചെറുമന്‍ m., — മി f. Cal. — Palg. a Malayāḷam Par̀ayan, also called ചന്പുതിന്നിപ്പ. So., പൈതിന്നിപ്പ. Cal., പുഴുതിന്നിപ്പറയന്‍ No. see പറയന്‍. പറച്ചേരി a Par̀ayar village. പറജാതി (6) birds. പറയന്‍ m., പറയി f. (of T. Pariahs പറച്ചി) a caste of drum-beaters, living by making mats, baskets, besides witchcraft, etc. പറ യന്‍ ൭൨ അടിതിരിയേണം KN. Their tribes (പന്തിരുകുലം) esp. പറയന്‍, പെരുന്പ., മൂത്തരവപ്പ. (മൂത്തോരന്‍) see പറച്ചെറുമന്‍. പറയന്‍പൂ = മേത്തോന്നി as employed in philtres etc. പറയോന്തു (6) a flying dragon. പറവാശി (3) overplus or deficiency in measure.

po/?/il T. M. (C. puḷil sand-bank in rivers). 1. Watered ground. പൂവാര്‍ പൊ. RC. a flower-garden. കുളുര്‍ പൊഴില്‍ ചൂഴില ങ്കനകര്‍, അണിപൊഴില്‍ ചൂഴിലങ്കമന്നാ RC. sandy shore (or ocean? in a. T. world). 2. a piece of low ground പൊയിലില്‍ അരിയുന്ന തീയന്‍ TP.; also പൊയിലിന്‍ പാടു, പൊയിലു ന്പാടു (So. പുകില്‍), പൊയിലില്‍ തൊടിക MR.

puḷḷuvaǹ (പുള്‍). N. pr. A caste employed in medicine, മന്ത്രവാദം, singing at snake-groves the പുള്ളുവപ്പാട്ടു accompanied by the tap of the പുള്ളുവക്കുടം; the females (പു ള്ളുവത്തി) are midwives in the No. (61 in Taliparambu Talook).

pāḍalam S. (പടലം). pale red, pink colour. പാടലാധരികുലമൌലി Bhr. with fine lips. പാടലി S. the trumpet-flower, (= പാതിരി).

paḍaǹǹa M. (പടുക) l. A saltpan, ഉപ്പു പ. saltmarsh. ഉപ്പുണ്ടാക്കുന്ന പ. കള്‍ കിട പ്പായതു നന്നാക്കിക്കിളെച്ചു TR.; പണ്ടാരപ്പ. നടപ്പു salt-manufacture of Govt. പ. ക്കണ ക്കര്‍ river-boatmen about Cochin. D. 2. No. a broad hoe, spade to break clods പടന്നക്കൈ ക്കോടു TR.

paδāγa S. (പത് to fly) A flag ചാരു പ. കളോടു തോരണം ഉയര്‍ത്തുക AR., also ധ്വ ജപതാകങ്ങളും AR. പതാകി a standard-bearer — പതാകിനി an army. പതാരം see പതവാരം under പതം. I.

paṭṭaḍa (T. C. an anvil, fr. പടുക) Funeral pile = ചിത, as പ. കൂട്ടുക; also = ചുടലക്കാടു.

pāṇḍ/?/u S. 1. = പാണ്ഡരം, പാണ്ഡുരം, whence പാണ്ഡു. 2. N. pr. the brother of Dhritarāshṭra, Bhr. 3. a bilious dropsy or white leprosy. പാണ്ഡ്യദേശം S. = പാണ്ടി 2.; its king പാ ണ്ഡ്യന്‍; ശൌണ്ഡ്യരായ്നിന്നുളള പാണ്ഡ, മഹീ ശന്മാര്‍ CG.

punam (T. high ground). 1. A jungle, chiefly highland overrun with underwood & capable of irregular cultivation പു. കൊത്തുക, കരിപ്പിടുക TR. the process of cutting down & burning the underwood, say once in 12 years for sowing jungle-rice. പുനനെല്ലു, പുനകൃഷി, പുനം പൈമാശി TR. N. ദേവസ്വത്തിന്നു ൨ പൊതിപ്പാടു പുനം വാങ്ങി jud. 2. a cover, hole പാന്പു പുനത്തിന്നു പോന്നു TP. പുനക്കണ്ടം a hill-tract. പുനന്പു rattan (= പുരന്പു). പുനന്പന്‍ D. a head-man among Chègōns. പുനംവാരം rent of produce from jungle cultivation.
