ambalam T. M. Tu. (perh. അംബ രം Tdbh.) 1. ka represents in Tdbh. the other gutturals (ചങ്കു fr. ശംഖം, കിരിയം fr. ഗൃഹം, കനം fr. ഘനം; കേമം, പക്കം fr. ക്ഷേമം, പക്ഷം; വ രാകന്‍ a M. fr. വരാഹന്‍). ക in the middle of words slides into യ (അരികത്തു, അരിയത്തു), വ (അക, അവ), ഹ (ആഹെ, വഹ TR.) or disappears (പുരുഷകാരം — പുരുഷാരം, ആകും — ആം, എടുത്തുകൊള്ളു — എടുത്തോളു, ഏറനാട്ടു കര — ട്ടര, ചെരിപ്പുകുത്തി — പ്പൂത്തി.).

karṇam S. 1. The Accusative; കര്‍മ്മത്തില്‍ ക്രിയ the passive construction (gram.). അവന്‍റെ ക. അറ്റുപോയി V. he is dead. 2. moral & religious act. നിത്യക. daily services. 3. നമ്മെ ഒക്കയും ബന്ധിച്ച സാധനം കര്‍മ്മം GnP. actions of this & former lives (of 3 kinds പുണ്യക., പാപക., മിശ്രക.); chiefly bad actions & their consequences. 4. fate, destiny എന്‍ കര്‍മ്മം എ ന്നു CG. (exclamation). ക. ഇല്ലാത്ത unlucky. ത നിക്കു ഭാഗ്യം അനുഭവിക്കുന്നതിന്നു ക. പോരാ Arb. his luck (as determined by the actions of past lives). ഇങ്ങനെ ക. നമുക്കെടോ SiPu.
