p/?/šni S. (സ്പര്‍ശ്) Speckled (cow), N. pr. a class of /?/shis. പൃശ്നിഗര്‍ഭന്‍ S. K/?/šṇa, Bhg. (or വൃ.). പൃഷത്തു S. speckled; a drop.

panaṭṭnγa (T. പിനററുക). To cackle as a hen, B. പനന്പു = പരന്പു V2., hence പനന്പുവള്ളി Wild rattan, Flagellaria Indica, Rh.

palahāram (T. പണിയാരം, Port. paniara, C. പലാരം fr. ഫലാഹാരം). Cakes, sweetmeats, esp. = നെയ്യപ്പം; any slight repast.

paṇḍi T. So. (= പണ്ടം 3) The stomach തീന്‍പ.; hence പ. വയറന്‍ pot-bellied.

peṇṇuγa aM. (=പേണുക q. v.) To take care of, use, take to oneself ഭോജനം പെണ്ണിത്തെളിഞ്ഞു, ഭോജനം പെണ്ണുവാന്‍ കാമി ച്ചു, ഗോമയം കൊണ്ടുള്ള ലേപവും പെണ്ണിനാര്‍; so നിര്‍ണ്ണയം, സ്വാദ്ധ്യായം, ക്ഷാളനം പെ CG.

paṇayam T. M. (പണ്യം or പണം 4.) 1. A bet, stake ചൂതില്‍ ഓരോ പ'ങ്ങള്‍ പ റഞ്ഞു Nal.; എന്തൊന്നു വെക്കുന്നിതു പ. DN. അവളെ പ. പറക, ചൂതിന്ന് ഒക്കവേ പ'ത്തി ലായി നമ്മുടെ രാജ്യം Nal. കലഹിച്ചു പ. പറ ഞ്ഞു KR. two birds trying who may be quickest (also ജയം പറക, വാതു etc.) ചൂതു പൊരു താന്‍ അസംഖ്യം പ'മായി Bhg. 2. a pledge, pawn കൊത്തുന്ന കത്തി പ'മാക്കൊല്ല prov.; പ. കണ്ടേ കൊടുക്കാവു KU.; കുഴല്‍ ൪ പണ ത്തിന്നു പ. വെച്ചു, തറവാട് എനക്കു പ. വെച്ചു TR. പ. നിറുത്തുക to seize a pledge for reprisal. പ. എടുക്ക V1. to redeem it. Kinds: വല്‍ പ. double the value of the money borrowed KU., തൊടു പ. (& ചൂണ്ടിപ്പ.) mortgage of grounds without handing them over, ചുരിപ., ജന്മപ. etc.

pārvaṇam S. Connected with പ ൪വ്വം, as പാ'ണേന്ദു the full-moon.

pūδa (T. an arrow) A small insect B. പൂതച്ചെട, പൂതച്ചെടയന്‍ a. med. plant; others are called പൂതക്കൈ, പൂതക്കരല്‍, പൂത ച്ചോര.

pańńi (T. പഞ്ചു & പഞ്ചി, also പഞ്ചീ ടും പട്ടുമെത്ത KR.), C. അഞ്ജി. 1. Cotton, gen. പരുത്തി. 2. other kinds (ഇലവന്പ. or ഉന്നം, fruit പൂളക്കായി Eriodendron orientale; down of ചെറുപൂള etc.).കാററു ശമിച്ചാല്‍ പറക്കുമോ പഞ്ഞികള്‍ Nal. (ex. see വൈക്കോല്‍). — ചെ ന്പഞ്ഞി lac. മഞ്ഞപ്പഞ്ഞിപ്പൂ flower of മുള്ളന്‍ പാ യല്‍. etc. പഞ്ഞിക്കായി, — ക്കുരു, — നൂല്‍ cotton pod, — seed, — thread. പഞ്ഞിപ്പാളി a cotton-stuffed mattress.

pula T. M. C. (Te. C. polanti, a woman fr. പുല്‍ T. vile). 1. Taint, pollution. 2. defilement, esp. by a case of birth or death ചത്താലും പെററാലും പുല ഉണ്ടു prov.; അന്നു തന്നേ ഒരു പുല കൊള്ളും Anach.; ൧൦ നാള്‍ ഉണ്ടു പുല VCh. ബ്രാഹ്മണന്നും പശുവിനും 10 ദിവസം പുല prov.; മരിച്ച പുല കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ TR. (after death, the 12th, 15th day or = നാല്പത്തൊന്നു). 3. the relation to which the defilement extends: ചാര്‍ച്ചപ്പു. (ദൂരേയുള്ള പു. 10 —16 days) the more distant; ദീക്ഷപ്പൂ. (അടുത്ത പു. 40 days or 1 year) the closer relation; വാലായ്മ q. v.—There are 4 steps (a. the son. b. near relations = പത്തു പുലയുള്ളവര്‍; ബലിയും പുലയും (or ബലിപ്പുല) സംബന്ധമുള്ളവര്‍ etc. doc. jud. c. slightly related = മുപ്പുലയുള്ളവര്‍. d. ബന്ധുക്കള്‍, with whom intermarriage is forbidden to 3 generations) VyM. 4. belonging to pulayas. പുലകുളി (2) bathing after mourning, completing the obsequies, the 11th day പു. അടി യന്തരം കഴിഞ്ഞു MR. It may be delayed by
